I think this is cool.. but why is it when an artist is
remixed by another artist, or if one artist is featured on
another's song/album/ep.. they're squaring off ? in europe
they don't say soandso featuring or 'with'..
soandso2.. or artist 'track title' (artist2 remix) they say
'artist1 vs. artist2'
does the word versus have a different connotation in europe
? or is it just for fun

e.g.
beck vs. aphex twin
tricky vs. gravediggaz
massive attack vs. mad professor (or whoever that was)

I had always wondered the same thing.

I take vs. as battles. Like supernat vs juice (mc battle)
but in remixes it's nothing like a battle but merely an
artist trying to add his or own flavor to something they
like.

I reckon a Vs. is when you do an unlicensed remix and
butcher it then release it as a white label giving no
royalties to the original artist ;)

i think its because versus sounds better then featuring ;)

My question is this. Who fucking cares? Do you actually
care? Or did you just think it was an original topic that
might get you some replies? Is it keeping you awake at
night? Maybe it is. If it is then i apologise unreservedly.

here we go:
it's not keeping me awake at night, but I'm also interested
what it really means.
unlicensed remix is a pretty interesting point.
I'd really like to follow this discussion without reading
your stupid comments.
but actually... ah, fuck it.

I'm not saying all vs. are unlicensed remixes- a notable one
that was paid for was run dmc vs. jason nevins...

However, a lot of unlicensed remixes and 2 for 1
bootleg mash ups use "vs."

Versus doesn't necessarily mean competition - it can
indicate comparison - so you are comparing the two mixes of
the track.
