People you are forgeting the Caustic Window Compilation and
SAW 85-92!!.

Also the 3 first albums by Autechre.

mmm... and in my personal case almost all µ-Ziq releases,
Lunatic Harness started all for me.

MHTRTC is almost obvious :-)

the quiet songs on Spectrum by Jega and also some slow
tracks by Luke Vibert/Wagon Christ are also very nostalgic
for me.

This question is tough to answer, do you mean stuff that IS
nostalgic to us becuase we used to listen to it, or music
that is nostalgic becuae of the sound of it, the style, and
it's references? i.e. BoC makes us reminisce to biology
class films and beautiful places out in the country, it
refernces a sort of collective memory that everyone
partially shares in. However, you may find Aphex Twin
nostalgic personally becuase you listened to him in high
school or whatnot. There's a sort of a difference to me..

i aint got the greatest hits but i have maya, last train to
lhasa and big men cry, all pretty good albums. i prefer the
early stuff though. the greatest hits is probably a good
starting point.

I totally agree. By nostaglic I meant the sound/style of the
music. That's what affects me the most. I rarely get
nostalgic about a tune because it takes me back to a
specific event/time.

'I rarely get nostalgic about a tune because it takes me
back to a specific event/time.'

isn't that the definition of the word?

offline TonyFish from the realm of our dreams on 2003-03-05 15:52 [#00582216]

true. But it feels like nostaglia. As uviol puts it, it
refernces a sort of collective memory that everyone
partially shares. Maybe melancolic is the word I'm looking
for.

I have some sound limited vinyl by those guys. Close the
clubs and close the minds.

The PWEI cover was good but the original was better even tho
it's from a PWEI album from 1996 that never came out.

i think neither nostalgic nor melancolic are the words
you're after :))

how about dated :)

for me any nostalgic sound would have to be old Hardcore mix
tapes, early AFX (like Digeridoo, Flaphead, Dodecheadron
etc)... as for melancholic....errr.. Nick Drake... Leila...
dunno

While we're on the subject I find AFX, AE, Squarepusher to
be anything but melancholic or depressing (which some
people do)

some of those 8bit revivalists.. Proswell, nullsleep, etc.
takagi masakatsu
