I'm just wondering how all the music makers make their
beats.

What software/instruments/pots N pans/etc.

Also is there a trick to creating non-linear beats typical
in IDM?

I am not a music maker, though I am a dreamer of dreams

just make a beat / cut a nice beat outta a track or
sumthing, repeat it a couple of times (copy/paste in sound
edit app, i reccomand cool edit pro) and glitch it up

I haven't heard of Reactor, I've heard of Fruityloops but
never used it. I thought Fruityloops was more for
editing/composing...
Does it also generate beats?

I want to create the actual beat rather than cut it out of a
track.

the only beats i sample are my own.

fruityloops is a compositional tool. it does not generate
sounds though.

i use reaktor to mold my sounds. i have a couple of
ensembles i created for the type of sounds i like to create.

i like to collide samples as well. for instance, a 909 kick
drum that is real throaty and deep with a higher end, more
scratchy stab. i do this in sound forge.

works great for creating original sounds.

I never managed to make that fast kind of beat like in
Girlboy song etc....

But experimenting with using compressors on a drumline is
also a very good idea.

Make a long, varied drumbeat, chop it up, cut and paste,
phuqq around till your damn tired of it, and add a 2-300 bpm
and voila a Girlboy beat. ^_^
