Terrifying morning

The bus drivers went on strike today so I had to wait over
an hour for someone to come and get me, and while I was
waiting I either had a severe anxiety attack or mild heart
attack because the left side of my chest was in AGONY, I had
to stand up straight because if I turned my torso around it
would sting. And it was ''tight'', it's what I imagined a
heart attack would feel like. Then I went to sit down I just
went ''UGHH'' and everyone looked at me like I was crazy...
hurt to move or breathe. I wasn't nauseous or weak or
anything, it was just bad pain.

This went on for about 45 minutes, I was sitting down
wondering what the fuck is happening and whether I should go
to the campus doctor or what, then my drive finally got
there and it got better, by the time I we were home I was
feeling OK.

I'd really like to believe this was an anxiety attack or
something. I'm only 20, and I don't smoke or drink or
anything... but my family has bad heart history, my uncle
had open heart when he was 5, my grandfather is on some sort
of meds for his, pretty much all of my uncles have or had
high blood pressure... so this is really bad. I'm the type
that doesn't tell anyone there's something wrong with me,
and I have a phobia of doctors, haven't seen one in years.
But this scared the shit out of me and I'm just going to
bite the bullet and tell someone... my uncle is a doc, so
that's a big plus.

But you always hope that it's nothing, and you'll never have
something like this happen again... and there's the fear
that you'll go in and they'll find something REALLY wrong
with you. But this is too much to ignore, I'm taking the
week off and seeing what my uncle, or another doctor if I
need to see one, says. And it's already scared me into
totally giving up fast food and that crap. Never, ever
again.

I think something like you've described has happened to me.
I think it's related to anxiety, at least in my case.

you're doing the good thing in getting yourself examinated!

i had chest pains too a while ago, and it scared me do
death

but it turned out to be nothing seriously... but it could
very well be something that needs medical attention

hope you get well / you havent got a hart ailment

I understand what that's about. I have had heart
palputations on various occoasions and I have been troubled
with panic attacks in the past. I am cool now though.

Wasn't that the gayest 45minutes ever? I mean there really
isn't much you can do except focus on what's going on.

sounds pretty uncool.

anxiety attacks are full of teh suX0r.

i hope it was nothing serrious. both of my parents are
nurses, so, I've never really been to a doctor. 'cept
pediatricians when I was real young, and the occasional
emergency room trip for broken bones.

my old man has just had open heart surgery, and a heart
attack last year. dodgy stuff indeed. makes me wonder whats
instore for me. i often get the sharp pains on my left hand
side, sometimes it hurts so much i can hardly inhale. gotta
stop smoking drinking and drugging, it is only making
matters worse for me, i know that much....

It sounds like what we in Norway call: "Panic-anxiety".
Don't know the correct english word for it. But you should
see your uncle, I guess.

get that checked out ophecks, sounds pretty serious. leaving
things like this can only do you more harm than good, if you
are afraid of doctors then at least talk to your uncle.

Yeah, I've always been afraid that my family heart problems
are going to haunt me, but I didn't expect that to happen
till I was 40, not 20. This is big dose of reality.

And yeah, V-Pusher... that was a surreal 45 minutes. I
thought about EVERYTHING, my mind was racing like crazy. I
almost forgot about the pain because I was so worried and
thinking up so many scenarios in my head... it kind of
distracted me.

If you felt a pain in your left arm before the pain in your
chest, it's a suspected heart attack--if you didn't, it's
probably related to stress.

Yeah exactly. I have never used so much brain power just
thinking before. I totally have been there. I never knew
that one could think so much until that moment happened.

When the body has a malfunction, it sure is an experience!

Sounds nasty... i'm glad you already decided for yourself
you're going to tell someone (otherwise the entire board
would have had to persuade you ;-))... because yes, that is
definitly the best thing to do!

It's a good thing you don't smoke and drink. And if you're
also going to eat healthy now then... well... the chance of
ever getting a heart-problem surely decreases alot! :-)
You'll probably be alright, but still go see a doctor/uncle!
You may or may not need medical attention

I felt a pain in my left arm yesterday, oddly enough... and
my hip. Man, my body is falling apart! 0_o

But no pains or anything leading up to this little
episode... it just kind of happened literally out of
nowhere.

I'm not so worried now... I'm thinking it was stress... I've
been going insane lately and this little bus strike was like
the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, it really
pissed me off. Better safe than sorry though.

I've had pain like that and I was concerned i was having a
stroke, which seemed very odd as i am only 20. Turns out it
was just a bad case of heartburn.
