I got a Celeron 500 playing through an M-audio 24/96 card through an old Marantz 1530 tuner into Mirage m-190 speakers, or Sony MDR-7506 headphones.
The phones are too accurate to play bad mp3s through, you hear every artifact and swoosh. The speakers are more forgiving but late at night eh, wuddyagonnado
I'm thinking of getting B&W 602 speakers and a Denon tuner/amp with digital input, any thoughts on this?

Yeah I have yet to see a bad review of B&W speakers.... I think I may get them before I get a tuner with digital in, as the old Marantz is pretty faithful - maybe it warms up the sound a bit which isn't a bad thing at all.

That would sound sweeeeet through my Ampeg V7 - it's kind of an overpowered clone of a Fender twin. It has a clean tone that could knock over walls. And nice dirt when you crank it. I gotta get it modded to run el-34 power tubes instead of those beastly expensive 6550s that burn out when you bat an eyelash.
Aw who am I kidding, I pick up a guitar once a year at best. :-(

I have a crap little amp that's sounds heavy as shit, which is good for playing those house-shakin' Ironman riffs, but for anything resembling a ''pop'' sound, a jangle, anything clean... fuhgeddaboudit.
I almost bought a dreamy amp from my guitar teacher, but the deal fell through... when I realized I had no money.

My first amp was this little Yamaha transistor thing that was sooooo dirty sounding. It was great for playing punk stuff like GBH and Flux of Pink Indians.
When I was a teenager I almost bought an ancient Gibson tube amp that sounded great but I didn't like it because it had no dirty sound. Couple years later I was kicking myself because I realized how easy it would have been to get modded.

Keep the marantz until your dying day or you'll regret it. I moved from a marantz 2275 with a hefty 330w of tube power to a Denon avr-1802. Although the marantz puts out pretty amazing sound I've got to say the Denon does well for a newfangled gadget. This is all through a pair of wharfedale modus 1-6's or my phones.

just get reaktor by native instruments. it accurately models the juno + hundreds of old rare synths. you can even design your own if you have any knowledge of VCOs, VCFs, LFOs and the like. the main advantage is it is controllable by midi! :) so i can assign a knob to change res. or cutoff, etc. its much cheaper than a room full of hardware.
