That what I thought too, even if it is possible (which I
doubt ) it wouldn't be anyway near the original.

that'd be cool if u needed to arrange a piece, that you've
got on mp3, in a program such as sibelius or a midi
sequencer...

www.intelliscore.net

but the demo only allows you to convert the first 60 seconds
or so

Nope don't know who- I have the program though.

I imagine this could work with minimal piano pieces...

A finnish composer

that program is a very powerful/proffesional program, used
by composers.

he is like our national composer, totally awesome music he
has composed too (pieces like finlandia hymn etc.). his home
'ainola' is a cultural resort and quite close to where i
live.

Yes, I've only scratched the surface but it looks like it
has a lot of depth. Have you used it much Zeus?

of course you can convert audio to midi, it?s been around
for years now...

For more (hardly useful) esoteric results you can convert
whatever you want to audio! It?s quite funny... Keep the
volume low on the speakers though..

my music teacher has the program Sibelius on his PC and i've
used it, its pretty hard to pick up. Everything is written
out in musical notes.

Program is called digital ear. You can convert an mp3 to
wav and a wav to a midi. Try it, it is a nice program.

I mean, the examples on www.intelliscore.net are a joke. Of
course you can do that. But just some MP3 out of the drive?
Not very likely I'd say.

I think it is the best you will ever get, unless they
separate each frequency from the wav and than gate it and
than use like 21000 midi channels and combine it all
together.

It is possible however to simply convert an mp3 file that is
sitting on your hard-drive,

but useless I think.

offline magiker from Östersund (Sweden) on 2003-02-25 19:42 [#00571144]
Points: 865 Status: Lurker

It's possible, yes. But the result? Fuck it. The sampling
theory you described should be better.

But then again, MIDI is an interface for digital
instruments, so it isn't even made for this kind of use. And
no modern synthesizer out there could handle the bitrate on
that MIDI stream you described. LOL!

Nice thought though, one should always press the limits. But
in this case I'd rather not even try.

What kind of program is it? A sequencer?

I've seen two programs. They figure out the key and makes a
MIDI-interpretation of a wave file.

there IS a shareware prog, named AkOff Music Composer or
something like that, it analyses frequencies etc... Works
realtime too! from a mic...

sibelius is good, but time-consuming

I think it is digital performer from moto that has a audio
to midi function, I also saw a program that does this only
in a music-shop here in town (gothenburg) don?t remember the
name though... But I don?t know anything about a DIRECT
conversion MP3 > Midi, just must convert to a Wav or
aif-file first.

For more rhythmic audio, recycle from propellerheads is the
best!

To make ANY file a soundfile, on a mac I just change the
header of a file, hardly listenable, though... Pure
merzbow-hardcore! ; )
