i recently learned to solve a rubiks cube. it takes me
about 3 minutes from any starting point.
anyone going to rubiks world championship in ontario this
year?
some of those "speed cubists" can solve that thing in 22
seconds on average.

there are a lot of methods to solve it
www.puzzlesolver.com has an easy one.
and here is the address of a site that has a method to solve
it for speed

Did you know he didn't think about patenting it and lost a
load of ca$h?

To be honest I had more interesting things to use my hands
for as a kid.

I could do it in 1m 30 secs when I was a youngster. When I
was in 1st year at school 4th and 5th year neds used to come
up to me, thrust their cube into my hand and say "do this in
under two minutes or you're getting it!"

I sometimes still pick it up now and do it. I'm probably
about 2 minutes now. But maybe with some neds threatening me
I might reach my old time.

The real daddy was the four by four rubik's cube. Now, that
was difficult. Also you had the rubik's snake and the
rubik's pyramid. Not to forget the rubik's barrel.

the time in which i can solve it depends on how well the
stickers are attached

I never removed the stickers. The pieces came off with
enough force. As time went by they came off easier and
easier. Man, I was fast at assembling it.

to hold.

he did actually get a patent on it eventually but the
interesting thing is that 2 other people simultaneously
invented similar cubes. One guy in japan invented a cube
held together by magnets. and another guy in the U.S. was
trying to get a cube patented when rubik came along. Its
like that "mass conciousness" theory discussed in the movie
Waking Life where people get the same ideas at the same time
because we are all kinda exposed to the same information and
technology.

there is a bunch of interesting rubik facts at that
puzzlesolver.com site
if you want to become a rubik geek

I have tried it without any manual and only needed to flip a
few cubes on the top to solve the darn thing. It is easy if
you learn the macro (I think it is called like that). I
have recently got Megaminx (a 12 sided cube with pentagrams)
but the stickers started falling off.

It took me a while to get a decent glue to glue everything
back together.

i've been practicing since i first started this thread and
now my best cube time is just under 1min 30sec.
i seem to have 'hit the wall' and i can't get any faster. I
need to memorize a bunch more sequences i think.
I even lubed my cube with olive oil so i could turn it
faster. that shaved a bit of time!

it is a skill that has virtually no practical application in
my real life!

online!

more than one side of one of those things... but also, i
don't know any of the techniques or anything...

i hate these things: they are a waste off time; i've spend
to many hours trying to solve it, in the end it all comes
down to one trick, boring

eh, it comes down to about 30 tricks actually, like pattern
recognition / implement appropriate sequence!

it's boring but i find it kinda calming like a worry stone
or a stress ball or a blow-job or what have you!
