i've already heard some sound samples by Matmos, they didn't catch me that much but if you can compare it to Coil then it must be very good!

matmos aren't nearly as varied as coil.. they do some similar stuff, but they don't touch on all the bases coil does and has since the beginning. but i'd say matmos are probably the coil of the next generation as far as style and skill goes, since they could always release more varied music in the near future.

matmos are among my top 5 at the moment, they're pretty amazing as far as skills are concerned, actually there are some more house like tracks-at least a little variety there hehe
i never was into coil tho, not quite the same these two imo

* but i'd say matmos are probably the coil of the next generation as far as style and

that's precisely what I was trying to imply..their stuff..is like..Coil LSD onwards...
but there is tons of variety in Matmos tits..no two albums are alike...from Quasi Industrial IDM of Matmos..to Quasi mind boggling fuck knows what of Quasi Objects..to Mindfuck Post Rock of The West..to Surgical Disco of a Chance to Cut..(me thinks that whole project was inspired by Coil's Disco Hospital)...
Maybe they dont have the mystical elements of Coil..but there's less and less of that in evidence in Coils own work post Worship the Glitch..

love's secret domain is a very special coil release! and very good :)
i would not recommend it for a first coil album though, that's the one i listened to first and it gave me a wrong idea of coil as it is quite very different from other releases they've made...
if you like dark ambient, try something off 'astral disaster', 'black light district: a thousand lights in a darkened room' or 'the remote viewer' or 'time machines'...
if you like industrial you can try 'scatology', 'horse rotorvator'...
though i don't know if you will like. i like musick to play in the dark very much.

that was why I suggested it:) but seriously..their Industrial stuff..is um..missrepresented...the Industrial albums have also got so of thier most delicate and beautiful tracks as well...

welcome to the board Lars!!
how to destroy angels, this is great to play loudly in a dark place for the ambiance it creates... it would definitely scare some people :)
btw, the original 'how to destroy angels', first coil release, was "ritual music for the accumulation of male sexual energy"...

Thanks Uzim! I wasn't sure whether i was going to buy that album or som of their more well known ones, like Scatology or Horse Rotorvator. But I read somewhere of the internet that certain editions of those albums had been "cursed" by Coil so I didn't have the guts to do it ;-)

boycott everything by Some Bizarre, they ripped Coil as well as Einstürzende Neubauten...

I will! the ones I've encountered in record shops are the "some bizarre" versions. Right now I'm too lazy too order any albums. I'll probably pick up any of their more ambient oriented albums. Any suggestions?

Thank you Ganymede... There are a lot of similarities in the sounds as well..specifically listen to the first two Matmos albums..Matmos and Quasi Objects..hugely inspired by post Love's Secret Domain/ELPH..glitch stuff...
Plus there's the A Chance to Cut..wholly inspired by Coil like concerns..Including a big nod in that direction with the cover of Disco Hospital..plus there's People Like US..which both Coil and Matmos have collaborated with
come on I didnt say..Matmos IS the band that is going to xerox Coils back catalogue...I said the NEXT Coil...as in a next generation band with Coil like aesthetics..

oh dear.. Industrial has a long and profound history using tapes, loops, found sounds and micing and taping objects such as shopping trolleys before that whole metal guitar riffing thing came on the scene..(which Ironically in the first Instance as popularied by Ministry was actually a sampled guitar:) )
try
Thobbing Gristle Cabaret Voltaire Coil(ofcoarse has no Guitars to speak of:)) Boyd Rice/NON SPK Einsturzende Neubauten Lustmord Nocturnal Emissions..etc..etc..etc..
plus..Matmos's album..The West..has live guitars..and um..very little else ;)

also, matmos contributed to the unreleased eskaton (coil's own label) compilation "the star shaped individual in society". all of those tracks (by true A-list contributors) are sitting on a shelf collecting dust for nearly 4 years now. why? who knows. ask that prick jon whitney who runs brainwashed.com and is too cool to answer my emails (i sent a couple).

hahaha, i dont know anything about industrial :) i thought bends like ministry, bile, front line assembley,... were the true representers of industrial, but i guess these are just the most popish ones
hmm, i'd never thought of matmos using live guitars, but not really surprising, since they're making real music unlike some others :)

i HOPE matmos ends up better than coil... have you HEARD their garbage experimental stuff lately??? john balances vocals get worse and worse and more embarassing as time rolls by. when i hear them, i cringe and think, "WOW! i feel dumber just hearing that." but hey, that's just my opinion.
