i have this friend of mine who is a web developer. he's
doing a cd-rom presentation for some company, and he has
aked me to make him a song for it.

he asked me this morning to work out how much i want to
charge for it. and well, i said i have no idea. he said a
few hundred bucks, bit it seems a bit much.

i know he'll just add it to the bill, and im also of the
understanding that he makes a fair bit of dosh from these
freelance things. but yeah.

what to charge?

anyone done anything like this before? any ideas on how much
to charge?

im guessing the going rate for cd-rom developement to be
around $60/hr. and i was thinking i could charge maybe
$20/hr. which meens i would probably get around $100.
anyway, just wondering if anyones got any ideas on the
subject?

ps: im fairly excited by the whole idea of being paid to
write a song.

if he says a few hundred buck himself, wel.. i wouldn't

i suppose i should really take it for all its worth.

seems strange i'll be making more money from this one off,
than i did for having a trak on a compilation that sold 1400
copies.

take the money! :)

I know it's not exactly going on a national ad campaign, but
still, considering how much you would get for something like
that, taking a few hundred for it seems fairy snuff to me!

a few hundred $$$ from a company that can obviously afford
it without batting an eyelid so a musician can use it to
maybe buy some equipment or something is AOK in my
book....it's not like you're Moby, selling out and that!

take half of what he is offering, you won't seem stupid but
you won't seem greedy

--> i did for having a trak on a compilation that sold 1400

copies. <--- mention this so that he really thinks that you
are worth the money

ended up getting $300. 12hrs @ $25/hr. its just a fairly
simple tech step dnb trak, only runs for 1.03.

sounds okay.

why shouldn't you take what he's offering? he seems to think
you're worth it, so how would you be greedy taking it..?

nice.

well actually, quite a lot of people do that.

only most of them don't also make the music they then would
like to make. :P
