I think 2 Remixes by AFX is called that and released on
'MEN' to stop people from buying it on the merit of it being
808 State and getting unwanted attention directed to
Rephlex. MEN was a one off and that's why it changed from
it's original Cat number to MEN1. I think the whole issue
about MEN being for AFX and Squarepusher is just to start
rumor and fuck with the fanboys. :> If it came out with an
808 State broadcasting cover and a Rephlex logo I'm guessing
you would have the same trouble with it becoming over
popular as you did with some other releases in the past.
Good idea but not something I can back up. It's a shame AFX
has to worry about such things and I think this will reflect
the lack of decent new Aphex Twin material coming out in the
future. He just can't do so without the hype. Look at it
from the point of view that Rephlex may have had back in the
early days. 'Oh fuck, everything we are putting out on
Rephlex is being bought under the idea that people think
it's AFX' You still see UI vinyl's marked as Aphex Twin that
are actually by KK. Maybe this is why Aphex Twin is shady
about what he puts out? Cat002 and Cat003 are impossible to
get and is this because Rephlex worried they where being
bought for the wrong reason? I have no fucking clue but a
discussion would be nice I guess. I hardly know as much as
I'd like about Rephlex.

I want to hear Cat003 bad because if that 7" of UI Green is
anything to go by it will have some good stompers on. :>

I dont think rephlex cares so much why anyone buys them, but
how much money we spent on them.

Well if you own a record label you have to worry about sales
but you are also going to be there for the music right? I
mean if a record label stops selling music then they won't
have enough money to put the next release out or won't want
to because they are not selling records. But if you want to
keep it real from their perspective selling everything under
the idea it's Aphex would not be the same as selling it to
get the music out there. I doubt Rephlex are as profit
driven as they are compassionate about getting good music
out there.

What I'm saying is they could easy access the mainstream and
make a shit load of money but they seem to avoid this (quite
rightly imo) at all costs.

I'm so close to hearing that! :D

As for Aphex trying to distance himself in that way. It
makes sense that he would do that. I reckon that could be
what's been done there.

Half way through reading your reply I was reminded that I am
not a lebel exec and therefore dont care about this as it is
none of my business. Im sorry to inconvenience with a reply
as I am neither a signed musician nor have I ever been
employed by record label, thus making any opinion of mine in
relation to this topic trivial.

Yeah but I still value your opinion. I mean what i said may
be total and utter shit so I don't want to stick by that
without hearing a compelling argument against it. I guess in
the end as with everything we don't know but it's still
interesting to discuss.

I'll add to what I'm saying here. I heard a rumor that AFX
will have a new remix out very soon. It's not the kind of
rumor I make up but something to look forward to. I'm
guessing it will be later this year.

Oh yeah ^^ It's a good feeling owning that.
