although this war is unnecessary (that is, for those who
will gain nothing and only lose something from this, i.e.
anyone who isn't a bush or part of the ultra-right higherups
that are pushing this agenda).. the whole protesting thing,
while very moving, is utterly pointless.. and I don't think
people get exactly why they are protesting..

I bet more people knew why they were protesting than there
were people who knew why they weren't.

I was typing something else other than this, explaining why
elusive has a point (though incitingly er inciting!) but
then I decided I didn't care enough about people either for
or against war. The people in power will do whatever they
decide to do without worrying about protests etc. Fair
enough to protest against something, but I often get the
feeling that people protest simple because they get caught
up in the fuss of it, rather than cos they've though it
through. I don't want a war, but I also don't want to get
hit by "the enemy" without warning first. Therefore I shall
sut here on my snug little fence, blissfully uncaring about
the political climate. Parallels with ostriches begone!

1 - something to do on a saturday
2 - get to vent anger, not necessarily caused by topic of
protest
3 - free soup

xceque has the right idea for the most part.. who is that in
your avatar?

qrter,. people have a general idea as to why they should
protest.. but many are missing the point..

Good point. Forgot about the soup. Is there nothing finer
than a well made tomato soup? I think not.

any idea a person has to protest is "the right idea" - a
protest is personal and is done for personal reasons.

offline theo himself from +- on 2003-02-16 20:05 [#00557769]

naw.. some people do it because other people are and they
want to join in on the rah-rah and get some free soup

offline theo himself from +- on 2003-02-16 20:09 [#00557771]
Points: 3348 Status: Regular

some people don't get that this war is a part of the
trilateral commission's agenda, and this is a way of getting
more power and utilizing the dangerous power the bush family
has for their own gain.. a lot of people are protesting
because they think they'll end up getting killed from
nuclear retaliation.. and they're doing it to save the lives
of our soldiers, civilians etc. which is a good thing.. but
there is more to protest

Exactly one of the points I was trying to say. Sometimes
people get so indignant about "I'm a peacefull person,
therefore I say NO TO WAR" that they don't stop to wonder if
they're doing it for the right reasons (ie they genuinely do
feel dead against war - and I ain't saying that
no-one feels this way, just that it worries me that
maybe not everyone does)

as I said before - all reasons for protesting are the right
reasons. if you feel like protesting - thats good enough.

I've pretty much ignored all of the war threads, I have no
idea about the current state of all of this kafuffle, then I
finally click on one out of pure boredom to find this,

I guess if I "was" paying attention to all those war threads
I'd probably be as pissed as elusive.

Elusive: I'll suck your lil willy when you pull it of your
mum's arse.

We were joined on Saturday in London (nearly 2 millions of
us) by 500,000 in Sydney, in Canada by 100,000 in Montreal
and 25,000 clogged the streets of Vancouver. In South
Africa, 5,000 turned out in Capetown and 4,000 in
Johannesburg.

Japan held more than 10 demos, the biggest in Tokyo
attracting 5,000. In Damascus, Syria, 200,000 marched.

In Buenos Aires, Argentina, thousands rallied. Some 30,000
marched in Mexico City, at least 300,000 across France. And
Berlin's rally drew 500,000.

More than 70,000 marched in Amsterdam, Holland, 60,000 in
Oslo, Norway, 20,000 in Vienna, Austria, 50,000 in Brussels,
Belgium, 35,000 in Stockholm, Sweden, 40,000 in Bern,
Switzerland and 25,000 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In eastern Europe 20,000 turned out in Budapest, Hungary,
10,000 in Zagreb, Croatia, and 1,200 in Prague, Czech
Republic, hundreds in Bratislava, Slovakia, Bucharest,
Romania, and Skopje, Macedonia, and 2,000 in Kiev, Ukraine.

the only problem is protest or no protest it's out of our
hands !

Bush will do what he god damn wants to, and it's obvious
that the majority of people don't want the war. I wish
there was something worth doing but I don't think there is
in this case =o(

I am sure that people in the power cannot pass over a

before the whole world protested this way, the same day, the
