Electronic music song titles -a question

I suppose i can't accuse them of not being creative (in one
way) but I'm definitly getting a bit tired of tunes being
given stupid or whacky(!) names, you know like Vershonik
Plop, or Soundtrack to Fettle 44 Pish-Fiddle.

I know it's the tunes that count, and the names are not the
focus but sometimes it's like some of these tune smiths are
still coasting on what seemed cool almost a decade ago.

I like the approach on Aphex's SAW 2, just pics that allow
people to come to their own conclusions, or perhaps no id at
all, just trk 1, trk 2, etc.. ANYTHING! just something
that's different to what looks like a retarded printers spat
out.

Sorry to grumble, I just saw the song titles for Autechre's
newie, and they just sort of made me go 'meh' - sort of
makes me wonder if their musical approach is going to be
just as un-fresh.

Dammit, forgot the question. Does anyone else feel some
title are getting weak and formulaic? Are there other
interesting ways of id'ing a song?

i think we should all starting to name tracks after obscure
welsh towns..... then people wouldn't bother with titles!

My opinion is that its not as easy to come up with a song
title that really has no lyrics....As for bands their lyrics
come from the chorus, but where would it come from in
electronic music? probably from words that come to mind...or
maybe we dont know what the word means or means to the
artist.

^"start" even, not "starting"

forget to change one word?!

Congratulations. You've just contributed two more names for
a future Aphex release, whenever the hell that is...

:P ;)

Anyway, I don't mind the names. I'll usually get the name
and track together within a week when I first hear it, so it
really isn't a problem for me. Be aware also that this is
their music; the names are meaningful to them, we're
basically along for the ride, so we'll have to put up with
their nuances along the way. But as I said before, it
doesn't bug me one way or the other.

sort of makes me wonder if their musical approach is
going to be
just as un-fresh.

Your call pal, not mine, nor a majority of this
messsageboard's inhabitants.

Welcome, BTW. Hope you enjoy your stay!

:D

How about Llandysul, or Pentrecwrt?! I used to live in Wales
for a while, in an exceptionally obscure village (named
above).

My favourite Welsh place name though is Nanty Caws - makes
me think of some fabled and feared monster who when
encountered is about as scary as Fozzie Bear.

Scratch'n'sniff would be pretty decent for track titles i
reckon, hardcore techno would definitely smell of machine
oil and heat.

Thanks for the welcome Da Wheeze, and Mr McQueen, that's a
tip top idea sir.

This is what I'm talking about, inventiveness to match the
music! Free your mind and your ass will follow and all
that!

that's right. It's actually a dead boring place though -

pretty much anywhere around where i live ;)

That's a first-rate idea, Steve-o! I wonder what Chiastic
Slide would smell like (besides oil, dirt, rust, grease,
etc.)?

;)

Steve: Your best bet for everything is HMV - musiquarium in
the market used to be great but has gone right downhill.
Derricks is cheap but doesn't have much. There's a second
hand store called More Music near Joe's Ice cream, that's
got some vinyl.

Apart from that.... fuck all :o/

i checked some stuff from derricks when i was down the uni
with my mate and they had a music fare thing happening. Some
wicked jungle/break 12"s :) dunno whether they actually have
that sort of stuff in the shop,
i shall check it out though.. cheers!
