i fucking hate it when these shitty no-name cheap cd-r-discs start breaking on me. i was just about to put on my ae live@coachella when i noticed the goddamn cd had started disintegrating. it's literally breaking into pieces. and it's not more than a year old.
it really seems to be worth it to spend the small extra cash to ge t some quality TDK:s.

hmm, i don't think i've seen any memorex around the shops here in helsinki. I usually go for the gold-coloured TDK cd:s (not cassettes alberto :) and maxell:s are great as well.
but i just didn't know the difference a year ago. or didn't care, i don't know. Now I'm going to have a big operation saving all the data from all my old crappy cd:s before they start breaking on me.

Fuji Film hasnt done me so bad Im using them right now.. Thick top layer. I think the best has to be PHILLIPS, those discs have the most rugged top coating. Stay clear of PNY. Maxell doesnt withstand my abuse verywell. I dont know why the shiny part just chips away. Consider Phillips anyway.

i always buy the same brand, quite cheapo (20 for 10¤)
but they haven't failed me so far (well exept for one, there are tiny holes all over the surface, as if someone has splattered acid on it, never seen anything like it)

mine has just huge chunks of the silver stuff on the front side of the cd coming off. I can actually look through the cd now.
I suggest you save all the important stuff from your older cd's too. :)

I think Phillips uses a different type of surfacing. It almost feels like vinyl. I think it covers that metallic shit that chips off. Try one out.
