i was listening to kid a after about a year today, and i
find it totally boring and i dislike it a lot

i was really into it when it came out though, but in this
last year i heard so much amazing music i find kid a total
crap now

but i'll give it another go, perhaps it will grow on me
again ;)

anyone had similar experience?

I had a similar experience with Amnesiac, not Kid A, though
it was just a temporary thing.

It's arena rock at heart, like U2 or Smashing Pumpkins.
While I have nothing against it, it really does nothing for
me.

really care)

certain artist
but it really came as a surprise how weaker kid a sounds
after i discovered some great stuff, and im a lot more into

well, i'll reconsider next time when i'll thinking of
opening a thread like this, because it really isnt nice...

so radiohead suck because you don't like kid a? makes alot
of sense.
i beg to differ though. radiohead are the only musicians who
consistently challenge me at the same level that aphex twin
does.

I have such mixed feelings about Radiohead. Everyone in the
even remotely indie scene makes you feel like an idiot if
you say anything bad about them. Kid A is their best work,
but even it is not perfect. They just don't have the
consistent goodness of some of the better IDM acts.. they're
still too enamoured of traditional rock to completely break
free. They're great in their own rite but as a sort of
hybrid they may not cut it in the end.

i understand people not liking radiohead, or not liking kid
a. what i don't get, and i'll never get this because
radiohead never stated as such, but why the hell does
everyone compare radiohead to IDM? they aren't IDM. they
will never be IDM. don't compare them to IDM acts in terms
of that genre. if you want to compare the two in terms of
simple musical quality, fire away, but i can't emphasize
this enough, radiohead aren't an IDM act. they're a rock
band that makes "experimental" (this isn't really true, but
for them kid amnesiac were experimental) albums. placing
them alongside autechre or aphex twin and comparing their
merits in the electronic genre of music is completely
pointless.

offline uviol from United States on 2003-02-13 21:55 [#00554416]

Point well taken .. I didn't directly compare them though,
not intentionally anyway .. I am saying that because Thom
seems to be trying to combine styles, imo he ends up
sacrificing quality on either the experimental or the rock
end. The reason we make even remote IDM comparisons is that
from what I undertand Thom is a big fan of these genres and
his music has evolved accordingly. Don't get me wrong, I
think his music is quite innovative. I love Kid A. I don't
think that IDM and Radiohead deserve direct comparisons, but
to an extent I think Thom's asking for it. Whether we look
back on his creations 20 years from now and think he made a
unique new style or a flavor of the month hybrid I'm not
sure. I say he gets an A+ for effort and a B for final
product, with exceptions of course.

radiohead, imo are doing more progressive stuff than aphex
these days. As for smashing pumpkins, some of their older
albums were great, and to say its "babyish/simplistic" is
just stupid - listen to the complex overdubs in the tunes
off siamese dreams.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't like
Radiohead but I can listen to Kid A and Amnesiac and enjoy
them quite a bit. The b-sides from Amnesiac are real good
too. It's not in any way indie unless you stopped listening
at 'Pablo Honey'.

Radiohead are not the enemy musically.

"it's ignorant to just come on and bash something you
don't like, just trying to start some s**t
"

That's really not fair towards tolstoyed, who is always a
very positive and polite person (or at least on this
messageboard ;-), don't know the guy in real life). And i
hardly think he tried to cause any trouble.

It was an interesting point he made, when it was released he
loved the album, and now some 2 years later he completely
dislikes it. Which is quite intruiging. My opinion of Kid A
has also changed since (because of Kid A!) i started
listening to idm-music. When it was just released i was
totally amazed by how experimental and progressive it was.
The fact it had such futuristic sounds and almost no
guitars... that was all very interesting to me.

But now that i listen to that kind of music on a daily
basis, Kid A isn't able to blow me away like the first time
anymore. I still love the album alot, but nowadays i
listen to it in a different way. I appreciate the beautiful
songs, and Thom's vocals... it has become "just another
radiohead album", whilst on it's release i thought it was
something completely unique.

I think Kid A and Amnesiac are great albums, but I think
they in certain ways lack the magic I can hear in OK
Computer. They're completely different kind of albums, I
know, and therefore can't be really compared but for me the
former two just don't have the endurance of the latter.

OK Computer is definately one of my favourite albums ever.
Just sheer beauty track after track. It still amazes my
every time I play it and I must have listened to it 100+
times by now.

WHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHA!!!!!!
HOW CAN YOU SAY RADIOHEAD SUCKS?!?!?!

The only thing that sucks about Radiohead is that they dont
have a new album. From Pablo Honey to Amnesiac is pure
greatness, yes their sound has changed but its definietly a
good change...

OK computer was their first change and Kid A is just a
compeletly different album but you cant say it sucks

How about this, smoke a bowl and listen to it and I'll bet
you you'll love it!
