Anyone heard of the anti-war charity "NION" (not in our
name)?

Surely being anti-war- rather than pro-aid/relief
constitutes a political agenda? Especially when one
considers this charity's links to communism...

If they can stop Amnesty International from being a full on
charity by classing it as political, I'm sure NION should be
too.

Opinions?

(I'm not asking about your view on the war, just whether
being anti-war is a valid charity or is it a political
ideal...)

Anti-war isn't per se a political stance.

You just got the Ninja Tune email too?

I assume its an American charity as the organisation here is
called the Stop the War Coalition and doesn't have charity
status.

But morally speaking, there is nothing wrong with this. It
is fighting to prevent genocide.

gave them lots of money :-)

No, you're right. One could say they were against poverty.
Is that political? If so, then Oxfam is political.

US education system is worse than I thought ;)

Depends how much certain people in power wanted to distort
meanings I guess...if they want something they can either
disguise it, or redefine it.

Okay, do you agree with amnesty no longer being recognised
as a "proper" charity?

Jonesy: Yes I did. I'm tempted to go to see Tobin at the
Blue Mountain, but I've been gigging too much recently...

What were the criteria that resulted in the stripping of
their charity status Ceri? I've no idea :)

There is a war, between those who say there is a war, and
those who say there is none.

I'd love it if a charity like this could bring about peace.
it's absolutely hopeless though. bush is gonna get his way
in the end.. you'll see

I can't remember the exact reasons, but it was along the
lines of, "Their primary goal is to get human rights
recognised. Human rights are a set of political ideals. Ergo
Amnesty are a political organisation and not a charity."

They still get some of the breaks charities do, just not all
of them.

An example of people in power redefining words and ideas
then eh? Sheesh, those motherfuckers.... to quote Kenneth
Williams "when will it end?"

They've gotta do something or those leftists would get into
power and we'd never have any wars and then we'd
starve because the economy would fail :P

Fun Fact: Suicide rates decrease rapidly in times of
war (and that's in relation to comparative population size,
not just straight comparisons!)...
