timberlake appretiation thread

no need for chagrin here. Justified, although the
title is a bit of a misnomer, is a good album.

the reason I own it:
I told my sister about the Bjork box-set, and that I was
thinking of getting it for her for christmas.. cut to x-mas
day, there under the tree is a package To: her, From: a tiny
picture of bjork giggling like a 4 year old that just played
a mischevious joke on one of her friends. she uncovers the
giftwrap to find j. timberlake staring back at her, backed
with two empty 2CD jewel cases. no Family Tree (yet).
she was pissed but appretiated the joke, based on the fact
that we shared a secret liking for the "Like I Love You"
single, and the one other track we had heard from the
album.

saying you like this album does not make you an immediate
n'sync fan though. what it does say, is basically that you
like the neptunes, or timbaland who dominate the
behind-the-boards presence of most of this album. timberlake
is an expendable element on many tracks (that I've heard)
all of the creative input comes directly from the neptunes,
from the drum programming, to the melodies, to the lyrics
and to the background "ad-libbing," which, had "Like I Love
You" been say a toni braxton or ray-j track, would have
neptunes' pharell williams speaking in justin's place. just
try to picture it. basically, what n'sync's [unfortunate..
for us anyway] sucess and his boyish goodlooks earned
timberlake was the opportunity to create a label money-maker
in which he was able to say "Oh! I like such and such, or
he's a good producer, I like him" and the labelheads weren't
to disagree or try to pull any strings because, the
neptunes/timbaland (moreso the former) have had such
unbelievably auspicious careers as producers within the last
2 years. ..in the end, he and the label execs win.

let me get a chance to see what people have to say about
this before I'm banned permanently, phobia

Oh, I'd appreciate Justin Timberlake...if he swallowed a
pickle jar full of razor blades and choked on them...

And yes, you should be banned for this topic, crossword boy!

THE SPICE GIRLS COULD KICK TIMBERLAKES ASS

Word up

I really like Timbaland and the Neptunes production
techniques/styles, that would be the only reason I would
ever go about buying this album, some of those tunes are
pretty rockin and catchy.

Justin Timberlake is a blatant Michael Jackson wanna be,
-minus the dancing talent and creativity that Michael
had/has

it really is some of the neptunes best material,, more
developed then most of their "superthug"-rehashes at least.
this is almost a followup N.E.R.D. album , channelling their
music thru someone who's really going to earn money for it.
and replacing pharell's weak vocal abilities

I really like Timberlake's music as well, and i think alot
more of these people here would also like it if the guy
hadn't been a part of 'n sync, but would just be some
unknown debuting singer.

But yeah... great music (the two singles i've heard anyway,
but i'm planning to give the entire album a listen).

right right.. this is my point. it's the association with
nsync that turns people away (it's also the reason many
people that haven't heard any of the album) .. but there's
no reason to turn away from this .. it's GOOD, believe it or
not.. but that shouldn't be surprising if you like talented
musicians like pharell williams.. this doesn't have
to be a timberlake album at all.. he just happens to be the
one these producers sold these tracks to. this could have
been an usher album. it could have been a joy division
album, it could be a crossover trent reznor album for that
matter. basically, justin is the vocalist on some new, very
good neptunes tracks

I agree its good music, and that it could be anyone up front
doing the singing. But that also means I can't appreciate
Timberlake himself, he doesn't bring much to the package.

tru. much of the reason he's in the position he is today
anyway has more to do w/ his looks and how much 12 yr old
girls are attracted to him than his charisma or anything
else that would otherwise make him stand out. and that is
very true for most people in that industry..

"it's the association with nsync that turns people
away
"

Exactly, it's sad really. People heard justin was making a
solo-album, and before they had even heard a single note of
it, already said to themselves: "this can't be any good..."

I must admit i myself was also surprised when i heard the
first single... but you've always got to keep an open mind
imo. You might not expect good music from the singer of 'n
sync, but if it turns out to be good after all... be willing
to admit your expectations were wrong.

I had this exact same feeling of pleasant surprise when i
heard "let me entertain you" by another certain artist for
the first time...

i heard that the timbaland tracks are even better than the

i must say, however, that the neptunes helped justin make a
song that he wanted to sound like radiohead and mazzy star

Yeah, but that still means that i don't (topic's subject:)
appreciate J. Timberlake, 'cause he has got nothing
to do with the music you hear in his songs. As theo himself
mentioned well, appreciation should go out to the dudes who
make the music imo (btw my aprreciation goes out to
noneoftheabove 'cause i simply don't like it, but that's not
the point ey?)
