Anyone catch the launch night last night of this new piece of shit? It's being marketed towards 20's to 30's. Johnny Vaughan, Johnny Vegas, some benders, Steve Coogan - it was a veritable cornucopia of bollocks. I pay £112 a year for this shit? Marketing - market this you money grabbing bastards.

for once i agree with sir bill. i was greatly underwhelmed by the BBC's new take on the twenty-sumfink market. it was tiresome and cringe-making within the first 5 minutes.

If these cunts want to keep this farce of a licensing fee going, then they'll have to start producing some quality television. I don't know how much that "man in the pub" twat Johnny Vaughan is on a year but I bet it's about a million times too much. The funniest thing about him is his ridiculous attempts to cover up his balding pate.

yeah but nothing's going to be done about it because there are shit loads of vapid morons out there who actually like this kind of crap and anyway we are particularly good at complaining about things in the UK, we just sit back, grumble a little bit and take whatever shit the mass medias shovel.

I switched on to find Vaughan + Appletons and immediately turned it off again. Still, I suspect it will be better than BBC Choice, although I wouldn't know since I don't have digital.

it's the usual suspect isn't it? martin you just said it. 'vaughan/appletons'... you could probably make a list up with the media's idea of 'trendy' celebs.
i can see it now... "palmer-tomkinson..... johnny vegas.... posh spice..." fucking hell...

I think his stand up shows are very different to his TV appearances. I've heard great things. But what I've seen of him on TV is disappointing.
BTW, if you get chance, go see Daniel Kitson. He's sooooo good.

BBC are caught between a rock and a hard place - they want critical acclaim but more importantly mass appeal. The way they think they'll get mass appeal is by pandering to the lowest common denominator. It IS possible to get mass appeal and have critical acclaim - the two are not mutually exclusive, but it takes clever people to make that kind of TV. And Johnny Vaughan et al are not clever people.

Oi! You leave Palmer-Tomkinson alone!
Anyway, I was going to watch BBC3 last night but ITV cunningly scheduled The Second Coming with Christopher Eclleston opposite it so i watched that. By all accounts so far it was a good decision.
Still, I'll give Swiss Toni a shot tonight.

the show that bill_hicks refers to so affectionatley as "some benders " was matt lucas from shooting stars and was hilarious - give the thing a chance!
on the other hadn the michael jackson interview was awful martin bashir was stiff as a board and nothing new came out of the programme - i preferred michael after watching it - he's still odd but he's got humanity - martin bashir is as crap as he's always been

Television nowadays seems to be obsessed with being interactive. All this shit like "we value your opinion". Fuck that. I want challenging televsion. I want television to confront me and make me question my views. I don't want public approved television as voted for by the great unwashed. I know their opinion and it's shite. They're brainwashing us. Can't you see? Soon television will be a succession of interactive real life entertainment nights hosted by ant and dec and davina and slowly your brains will turn to mush. And then you won't argue any more. You'll just consume. Just like the rest.

A half hour "comedy" based on one joke. Hilarious.
Watching Swiss Toni is very much like making love to a beautiful woman.
Except it's not. It's shite.

Yeah, takes the piss. Cable TV is something like 2gb+/sec bandwidth... why the hell does the "interactive" element appear to run on a seperate 2kbps line?
