XP lockup causing HD problem?

As you might know my harddrive disappeared a week or so
ago. I was thinking it might've been because of me messing
around installing a 2nd video card. As you might know WinXP
has a lockup feature, so that when your setup changes a few
times, you'll need a new key to get it running again.

My question is: Where is this info stored? I received my new
HD today, but BIOS won't detect that one either. In a way
this makes me happy, because it means my old drive might
still be functional.

Help, thanks.

As far as I know it's not info you can get at & it's highly
encrypted (for obvious reasons..)...

but yeah, I agree with ya re: the hard discs...sounds like
the problem is in the IDE cable, interface or
settings..(have you tried it on the other IDE channel?..)
