ok, the bug is kevin martin, who is half of techno animal
with justin broadrick of godflesh. the two of them also go
under the names sidewinder, white viper, ice, eraser and
more, and also have loads of solo projects, too many to go
into now.

techno animal is NOT idm, it's distorted industrial strength
hip-hop, at least that's the kind of stuff they do now. in
the past they have been drumnbass, ambient, industrial,
noise. white viper is a drumnbass project. justin records
drumnbass under his tech level 2 guise.

kevin has been recording and djing as the bug for several
years now. his debut "the conversation" was released on
wordsound, and is his attempt at a soundtrack to the coppola
film of the same name. he then released a stunning 12" on
fat-cat, which is impossible to find now, except maybe on
ebay. it was limited too, so it'll probably become a
collectors item if rephlex fans dig the new rephlex stuff.
there have been 3 7"s put out now on his own label razor x.
all are limited to 500, and they are crazy heavy industrial
dancehall ragga, with all the big names like Tikiman,
Rootsman and Daddy Freddy providing vocals. being played out
a lot by rephlex and warp djs lately....

so basically the bug is the shit!

and a remix by kid 606 which is ok a well - on the planet mu
board mike p mentioned a remix single or something with a
remix by aphex coming out on rephlex as well

dj scud is very good as well quite similar but more noisy
drum and bass style but still with alot of dancehall
elements - not as wocally

I'm really looking forward to getting my paws on the Lory D
stuff. I'll be getting whatever Rephlex put out on any
format anyway so it's all cool. This year seems to be one of
the best for music so far, I'm sorted already.

I want this new Rephlex now!

I was moaning on about Aphex Twin not putting anything new
out but I know all this is gonna make up for it. I just
can't go wrong.

me aul faverourite, Squarepusher, has been consistently
throwing in sweet ragga vocals since day one into various
tunes and for me it is one of the feature of his tracks i
really love. His Breezeblock DJ set is testiment to this too
and o fuckinmh know DJ Scud and this The Bug is gonna have
the same energy. Fucking hats off to Rephlex and the
pushah!.

They have already proven this to me. I want to prove it to
others. Too many around this area stop at the charts but a
load of the friends I have are always blown away when I drop
some Rephlex to them. At the house party I was at during the
drum and bass MC and DJ I plaid a mix of Universal Indicator
Acid to newer Rephlex stuff, I had everyone in the place
looking at the decks trying to see what I was dropping. It
was a joy to see people's faces when 2 Remixes by AFX came
on. Everyone was geeked at my set even tho my skills could
do with improvement, the music spoke for itself and it went
down real well. We need more Braindance in the north.

yeah i have that fatcat record and to be honest it's not a
patch on the kind of stuff i think rephlerx are putting out
ie the ragga style stuff.
yeah spikee dragon - when i have played that stuff too
people really love it - it's amazing cos people don't thin
kthey like it or are going to like it then when you play it
and they ask what it is they are always suprised!

haven´t a breeze mate! i couldn´t give a toss about beat
matching but i dj like squarepusher does on Breezeblock.
i.e.
Change the pace, incrrease the energy, include cheezy retro
songs, banging jungle, old classics, lotsa noise.....(i
don´t play the bass though!)..... just get into a vibe and
hold the crowd. i´m a "what the JAYZUS is he gonna play
next" type guy!

Ha, the main track was fun. I remember when it came out
though and I saw the tracklist and went "ooh a remix AND two
new AFX tracks!!!!" and basically touched my penis with
excitement at the potential for more mind-fucking
drill-and-bass, 'cos I loved that shit. But then I heard the
other two tracks and they just sound like what you get when
you import random raw data files into Audacity (ever done
that?). I stopped touching my penis very quickly.
