What's your favourite breakbeat out of any genre? Im quite
fond to the main one in Smack My Bitch Up, and also Dj
Shadow's 'Building Stream with a grain of salt'

Whats yours?

Good answer oscillik, i do like the Amen break and
Squarepusher and U-Ziq's tinkerings with it. I also like the
one at the start of 'Come on My Selector'

:)

i'm pretty sure the one in come on my selector is used
throughout?

it's brilliant though

oh i could be here forever qutoting tracks with brilliant
breakbeats in them

ooooh the break that's in the breakdown part of The Perfect
Drug by NIN

that break beat is fucking brilliant, you know the part just
before it goes all nice at the end, that break

fucking great

Are you being sarcastic jonesy or do you actually not know
what one is?

you must know what the amen break is?

taken from The Winstons Amen, Brother (or sometimes it's
called Amen My Brother)

used by virtually EVERYONE, but it's a brilliant break

i get it in my head and i can't stop looping it

for once i'm with jonesy on this one. Is it the band Amen or
is it a sample of someone saying amen or what.

Atari Teenage Riot use it a lot

and the main intro sequence to tv's Never Mind The Buzzcoks
uses it at the beginning, filtered slightly

offline Murray from Southend, Essex (United Kingdom) on 2003-02-05 03:04 [#00541500]

Its a popular break used amongst many IDM artists that like
mutilating breaks. Squarepusher does it, U-Ziq does it, im
sure VSnares has done it at some point, and there are tonnes
more.

offline Jarworski from The Grove (United Kingdom) on 2003-02-05 03:06 [#00541501]

People kept saying the Amen break and, like Bill, I thought
they were going on about the band. Then I realised it was
some nerdy thing, so I ignored it. :D

lol, it's not a nerdy thing

if you're serious into music, and particularly breakbeat
genre's and the like, it's something that is just known i
suppose

some 60's/70's funk/soul band

the track is about 2 or 3 minutes long, no vocals, just
instrumentation

the break is sampled from the drum solo halfway through

it's a totally clean 4 bar section

Thanking you for teaching an ignorant ignoramous.

BTW, my favourite break is used by DJ Shadow in his 1996
track Mutual Slump, off the Mo Wax album 'Endtroducing'. Its
a dope beat.

lol, you're not ignorant
:)

i dunno i have have taught anything, i'm not a very good
teacher!

but if i have given you some helpful info, i'm glad to be of
service

i don't think i've heard that track, but i have heard a few
DJ Shadow tracks, and the usage of breaks is really good :)

Liam Howlett's Dirtchamber Sessions is fucking brilliant for
breaks, it's full of it (Dirtchambers is Prodigy's DJ
session that was broadcast on BBC Radio 1)

squarepusher is the master breakbeat user! he puts so many
different ones in many of his tunes and basically gets the
best out oif them without being saturating

too
