[from the BBC] The legendary US record producer Phil Spector has been charged with murder after a woman was found shot dead at a house in Los Angeles, police have said. "He has been charged with first-degree murder. Bail has been set at $1m," an officer at the Los Angeles Inmate Information service told BBC News Online. The 62-year-old producer was arrested at about 0500 (1300 GMT) on Monday at a house in the suburb of Alhambra. The body of a woman was found at the scene. The name of the woman has not been released, as police need to first inform her relatives. Mr Spector is famous for producing acts like the Beatles, the Ronettes, Tina Turner, and the Ramones. He is considered a pioneer in rock music production and is famed for his influential technique, known as the Wall of Sound, which featured soaring orchestration and multi-layered vocals. It became a trademark of some of the most acclaimed pop hits of the 1960s, such as The Crystals' Da Doo Ron Ron and the Ronettes' Be My Baby. |
