I don't know why, but this grabbed me more then 9/11. Awful
tragedy it is.

It is very sad whenever something like this happens.....but
listening to the families of the astronauts on the tv, they
were saying that the shuttle launches should continue - its
what 'they' would of wanted....and I hope they do. NASA's
track record for incidents is fairly minimal, but sooner or
later you are going to have an incident which is very
unfortunate.....but life must go on, that is the way we
should think of it..

Reminds me of when Ronald Reagan gave his speech after the
'Challenger' disaster. Many people thought he was an idiot,
but I thought he was a much more sincere president.

"The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honoured us by the
manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget
them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they
prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and 'slipped the
surly bonds of earth' to 'touch the face of God.' "

Rest in Peace.....

I am not opposed to shuttle launches. But when you build
these shuttles as cheaply as possible bad things will
happen. The Challenger and Columbia were the two oldest
ships shuttles in the fleet.

i'd forgotten his words, they really are
touching........especially that last part *saves that in my
quotes file*

it's not to lessen anything about their untimely death, but
they died doing what they loved, from everything i heard
they were living their dreams. not many can say that.

They were not build as cheaply as possible though!

"In spite of the age of the shuttle Columbia, NASA
spokesman Diller says the ship was continually
maintained,
and the space agency had planned to keep it in
service for
many more years. "Columbia, even though it was
our first
orbiter and our oldest one, had been upgraded to
state-of-the art technology on the flight deck,"
he said.
"And in fact we had expected Columbia to continue
in the
fleet for a long time. Each of the orbiters is
designed for
100 flights, and Columbia was on its 28"

be mad.

Anyway, sad, sad news....
