What is the universe inside of?

Any idea?

I think about these things a lot, also I try to relate my
length to the size of the universe, and then I realize how
small I am.
Not even mentioning extraterrestrial life.

What's your theory?

You compare your 'length' to the size of the universe. If
that is what you use as a comparison, I guess you where
never ashamed to get a shower after sports.

i think maybe the universe is a part of a quark in an
unimaginably larger universe. or maybe it's infinite so
there would be nothing to be outside it.

heh... my tallnes I meant.

Yeah I realize its something I never will know probably.
But one thing I do know. This planet is very small.
If I take my car and speed to the southeast for maybe 5 or 6
days, I'm in iraq. If I go the other way I'm near the
northpole.

People building space stations, while they cant even keep
peace on the surface. Or getting everyone fed.

imagine an end...my mind always wants to know whats
after....

REINITIALIZE UNIVERSE AND RESTART***.

hehehe...

anyways, maybe it is wrapping around, just like in that
oldschool game asteroids.
If you leave the screen on the left side, you enter the
screen on the right side again

offline uzim on 2003-01-29 15:26 [#00533683]

probably.
or maybe it is just infinite.
or like a klein bottle or möbius strip, without borders
(could it be possible? in 4 dimensions maybe... or... no....
in an infinity of dimensions!!)

im taking an astronomy class at school this semester and my
prof. was telling us how within the universe are hundreds of
billions of galaxies, each containing hundreds of billions
of stars, each (potentially) with their own solar systems.
wow. the sheer thought just blew my mind!

and also how we might even be part of a series of
multiverse's with in some infinte threshold (is that an
oxymoron?)

who knows?

Maybe this is just all a dream of a sleeping dog. And when
the dog wakes up, we have never existed, and will only exist
in the dog's mind.

I had dreams sometimes, when I woke up I was upset because
it was 'just a dream'.
They were like movies, very cool and while dreaming it
seemed reality.

I seen and read something about that multiverse idea.

Very interesting.
If you could travel between those multiverses...

dreaming is real ....where do you spend half your life? just
no body allthough your mind (soul whatever) tries very hard
to recreate it all...dreaming has gotten me more and more
scared with planes...wich sucks coz i have to use them a
lot....i keep dreaming of planes floatin upside down...or me
being in a plane and then big explosions.. im talking out
of my arse so ill stop now..=)

wierd stuff, mind boggling!

another thing i thought was real neat is the "look back"
idea - because the stars we see at night are so far away,
they (could) take millions of years for their light to reach
us...so the stars we see are stars from millions of years
ago! how will we ever get anywhere if even the speed of
light takes us millions of years to get us where we're
going?

offline hobbes from age on 2003-01-29 15:46 [#00533721]

yeah! like most of the stars were looking at probably
exploded shityears ago....

We're looking at the past indeed.
When I'm outside and I look up, its just so empty and cold.
Even when I'm in the middel of the city and I get a glimpse
of the stars. I feel alone. It's just the distance.

ever seen Men In Black?

i dont really have one myself, but my father's one is that
the universe is the inside of a chair :/
he often said that.. like the world is one cell of the
chair
ok thats quite stupid, but thats my father :D
see im still there, and ready to roll a joint
btw i just saw an episode of suzanne, where all the old guys
(the grandpa friends i assume) were all smoking pot while
playing cards...
to see goodman talking about weed was kinda good :)

I dont know.
What I do see is the things all mammels have in common. The
way we're built.
Legs, arms 2 eyes etc...
I feel very close related to animals, just because I see
that we're constructed the same way.
We're all variations on one concept.

But have you also noticed, cars are also very 'human'?
2 lights (eyes) the thing inbetween (grill?)
Bumpers.
But...
4 wheels (2 arms 2 legs)
An exhaust and a fuel inlet.

very weird.

I read a good sci fi book about an explorer that found this
portal on an asteroid and every time he went back into the
portal he went millions of years into the future he was
traped and had to keep going forward untill the universe had
cooled down and most stars had died and man controled black
holes and could move planets,
this kept going and the astoroid turned into a perfect
sphere because so much time had passed that it turned into
its natural shape like a drop of water! anyway everything
ended up stored on a super compter thing and the universe
was dead ..
the book is called 'Time' by stephen baxter

Or NNeuromancer by William R Gibson?

i'm constantly comparing the length of my genitalia to the
size of the universe...
i'm thinking about silk screening a shirt that says
'comically small genitalia' because of this... but i'm too
lazy to be bothered

If you have read neuromancer, you will think of the matrix
as a very cheap ripoff.

It is a universe inside the universe. Only the logic is
your constrain. That is why we need different types of
intelligence to know what really is behind the corner we
call infinity. Than, how can something that is found within
the universe be fully aware of the universe itself?

I used to be able to think in loops but I got it damaged
somehow and became slower and sloweeeer aaaaannndd slllllll.

a theorethical portion of universe to measure it?
