Hello everyone. i hope somebody can help me with the following problem:
i run windows xp pro, and use roxio easy cd creator to burn cds.
Now, whatever i do, i cannot get windows media player to stop playing audio cds automatically whenever i insert them in either the cdrom or the cdwriter drive.
i have unchecked all filetypes at the filetype list under options, and even set other programs as default players for audio cds.
now the problem is, that when i copy a cd (from 1 drive to another), WMP plays the cd that is being created, just before it is finished, this fucking up the cd completely.
Attempts to delete WMP have failed, since it seems to be fully integrated with XP itself.
i hope somebody knows how to fix this. thanks in advance!

Try properties for your CD-drives in the device manager and uncheck the box that says autoplay CD.

okay, now i'm not einstein when it comes to computers, but i'm very very sure that under cd drive properties there is no such option as 'autoplay cd' or anything like it. Again, i'm running xp (pro).
could somebody please confirm this?

Open up Windows Explorer and find the CD drive you want to turn Autoplay off on. Right click on it and hit properties. Whack the Autoplay tab, drop down the box to music CD, select 'choose action to preform', choose 'take no action'. That should work, but I've had a lot of touble with autoplay and Windows XP Pro too...

i've seen that you get a message like 'you should not alter the content of this directory' when you want to view the windows directory under xp. that's so silly it's not even funny

you, are a genious.
the problem was, that when i go to properties through device manager, i get a different screen. I did see this 'auto play' tab when i clicked properties after opening windows explorer.
this should have solved it.
thanks :D

XP Pro refused to stop Autoplay for me. Even doing what -V- suggested (several times!!) so I downloaded TweakUI for XP and it worked perfectly. You can get it here. A very usefull progam
