DO YOU BUY WHAT YOU DOWNLOAD?

im talking about music. do you buy the original releases
of the mp3s you download? obviously im not talking about
all of them, just the albums you really like and really
listen to?

im not trying to start a debate about the filesharing issue,
just curious to see what effect it has on you members'
buying habits.

i think my question isnt good.

try #2:

what % of what you buy you bought because you downloaded it
beforehand (meaning if it wasnt for filesharing, you wouldnt
have bought it).

------------

75%

depends on the availability of the release, how much money
i've got, how good the cover is, if i already have other
releases by the artist in question and how much the artist
is well-known...

i don't think i could afford buying every release i like!
but i feel guilty when i don't have any records by an artist
i really like. i think it's a bit less grievous to download
an album when i already have some others by the same band.

62.23%

To be precise.

"how good the cover is"

that statement sounds stupid, but it's very true. i wouldnt
buy an album if there was no cover or artwork at all, just a
clear package with a white cd...

sad to say.

If it wasn't for downloading I wouldn't have the collection
of legitimately bought CDs that I now have.

That said, I do download a lot less than I used to because
a) I don't really have the time given my 56k connection, b)
I have trusted sources I use for new music recommendations
and am confident I'll like most things I buy even if I
haven't listened to them.

i usually download one or two tracks to see if i like the
album before buying it... not all the album.

I like CDs with '2 Remixes By AFX' style packaging as they
appeal to my minimalist aesthetic tastes, but then again I
*love* the packaging on Constellation CDs (Godspeed etc) and
that fact it's all done by hand.

CORTEX > i would still buy it if it was a blank or clear
package - what i wouldn't buy is a cd in a package i find
ugly...

I usually download before I buy because I like to being well
informed and don't want to buy something I won't like, since
my financial situation isn't exactly good right now... buy
if I download something and I really like it, I feel
obligated to buy.

I ALWAYS download before I buy, and if the music is shitty
then no I don't buy. But if the album is quality and
reserves the 15 bucks then i'll be glad to help out the
artist. ( and get a pretty booklet)

if it's good i buy it (if i can), but the chances are the
reason i've downloaded it in the first place is that it's
not in the shops
