wow, a friend of mine who knows my stange music taste gave
me this cd:

dillinger escape plan + mike patton - irony is a dead scene

featuring an ACOUSTIC version from come to daddy. sounds
unbelieveable agressive and is a perfect acoustic version !
check it out folks =)

When I hear an acoustic Autechre track, I'll be impressed.
With handclaps.

Acoustic is not a word I'd use to describe this cover.

Instrumental? It's neither acoustic or instrumental... you
gotta study your terms, boy. It's simply a cover... the
style isn't really necessary to state but if you wanna get
picky... it's dillinger escape plan style. Hah, i took the
easy way out. But its nottt acoustic or instrumental.

there really is no reason for this cover

they just imitate the song with drums and guitar

offline vacant from NYC (United States) on 2003-01-25 20:22 [#00528440]
Points: 365 Status: Regular

that's what sick about it. they emulate an aphex track WELL
with real instruments and vocals.

vacant, you and i seem to be among the few people who
appreciate the cover because we can listen to it in that
context. well said.

but its the most obvious aphex track to cover using
guitars/drums/bass and voice.. not like a "dangerous" choice
or anything..

what do you expect, they're a metal band. they may be
smarter than your mudvayne, slipknot, whatever else is "hot"
with the 15 year olds today, but they're still not some boho
art band.

its beside the point whether they're a metal band or not.

if someone does a cover I expect it that person to do
something with the song to make it their own.

not just translate it directly into guitars etc.

that to me, seems pointless.

picky, picky. i too love it when an artist totally changes
it around, but if it's a good performer then a straight
reading can be good too. and since this is a completely
different genre, it has a fanbase who are probably not
familiar w/ the original song. also, this version fleshes it
out with live instruments. for these reasons the cover is
cool. lemme put it this way: it's not like the strokes
covering the white stripes or autechre covering arovane,
know what i'm saying?

offline Sepix from Major City (Austria) on 2003-01-25 21:40 [#00528503]

this is no remix/cover/blablabla.
it`s "come to daddy" played by guitars, bass and drums.
thats cool enough for me.
thx.

well, call me picky then. :) I expect something interesting
in the music I listen to.

and it IS a cover. thats what you call it when someone plays
someone elses song.

I always think "arch carrier" could be done by an orchestra
consisting mostly of string instruments. the beat could be
done by slapping the strings..

oi... man. you guy's don't know shit about shit. neither do
i, really, so maybe i shouldn't criticize, but i know
dillinger escape plan are more than your average metal band.
they play some complicated shit sometimes. and MIKE FUCKING
PATTON is on vocals. I think he qualifies as artistic. as
for come to daddy being the obvious choice to cover... well
duh. they did it because it's a brutal song. they thought
they could translate it well into their instruments'
language... i don't know of many traditional rock structured
bands that could do such a job on that song. they fucking
killed it whether you like it or not. would you rather they
"arrange" their own 'metal' composition and just sing the
words "come to daddy" over it? i mean what the hell do you
expect... the whole point is to do a faithful rendition.
because it's mad, i tell you, mad.
