Am I the only one who doesn't like hip-hop?

So many times i read on this mb that people like hip-hop. I
do not at all like it, and neither do i see/hear the
similarity between IDM and hip-hop.

I was wondering if i'm the only one who does like
IDM/electro very much but doesn't like hip-hop a bit. Please
don't tell me i'm the only one...

"Je bent niet hip, je bent niet knap, je drinkt geen
bier maar tomatensap
je bent niet rijk je bent niet vlot, je ouwe fiets die is

je hebt een baan waarvan je zegt, hij is niet goed en hij is

if lyrics are important, try the first gravediggaz lp (if
you can get niggamortiz instead of the 6 feet deep ep all
the better)
nice beats as well (though maybe a bit simple for your
tastes)

i listened to hip hop before i started listen to electronic
music but i got tired off it just for the same reason as
Glass_ Eater said so i switched to electronic music.

The only hip hop artist/producer with some skills nowadays
is timbaland i think

the good hip-hop is underground.

check out the Hieroglyphics, especially the tracks 'At the
Helm',

People Under the Stairs, The Shapeshifters, and the
Visionaries, Mad Lib, Talib Kwelie, and Blackaliscious are
alright as well.

How can you say you don't like (all) hip hop? I'm sure one
day there will be, or was at least one song in that
..*genre*.. that you'd like!
Do i love country music? ... not particularly
But I like the song Jolene by Dolly Parton (was covered by
Darcy Clay, and the White Stripes) ^^

Hip hop, to me, is lame because they sample other music
without altering it, for one. Also, the lyrics mean
nothing whatsoever. So many songs have people in the
background yelling, "What!" or "WHo!" over and over again.
There's just nothing to it.

It's the same as with house and techno. there are so many
bad records that people can hardly find the good ones.

I have nothing against hiphop as a musicstyle and I love
turntablism but when I look at the total picture of hiphop,
it's sad and it's getting worse all the time

straight up it's pretty bland, like jazz. i can only enjoy
those genres after they've been manhandled by white kids
with laptops.

lyrics are the best part of hiphop

"I said a hip, hop, the hippie the hippie to the hip, hip,
hop, a you don't stop the rock it to the bang bang boogie,
say up jumped the boogie, to the rhythm of the boogie, the
beat."

"say what? what, what, c'mon, what"

morton is trying to be funny

Hip-hop is ok...
Just like elecrtonic music (and any music in general), you
are exposed to the shit side of hip-hop.
So really, if you look harder you will find some quality
hip-hop.

but the people who like it here make it depressing...

I like a lot of Hip Hop but not that stuff they play in the
TV. Quasimoto is the best cause it creates a atmosphere I
enjoy a lot. I think every music style has is ups & downs
(except for eurotrance of course) so you can find something
you like in every genre if you just dig deep enough ;-I

i think the ppl who said the dont like hip hop because of
the lyrics actually dont like rap.. i know someone else said
it already, but check out dj shadow for truly sublime hip
hop, without lyrics.. i shit you not>>> Shadows musical
genius is on par with ae and AFX, and he isnt even the
exception to the rule:
(kid koala, the herbailiser and mr scruff also float my
boat).

writing off hip hop because u dont like public enemy, is
like writing off IDM because u dont like the vengaboys
(sorta)

I dont lke hip hop either. ;) Its boring, to me. It all
sounds the same (one of the reasons that I also dont like a
lot of internet dork music!) and most of the lyrics are
trivial--cars! women! ice! alcohol! wooaahh! I think just
about every rapper has said "put yo hands in the air" in at
least one of their songs.

I just dont like it! BlaH!

Oh, and then theres Nellys video in which he lives in a town
called "Nellyville". The funniest video in the world! Too
bad he was probably taking himself seriously. ;)

I don't like it, but I DO respect it, in part because I
heard some fairly creative hip-hop stuff on Titworth's radio
show that I wouldn't have heard otherwise, like on the
radio.

It's still not my cup of tea, but I have more respect and
understanding for it.

Most mainstream hip-hop just totally disgusts me and makes
me want to cry, though.

Rap is a part of hip-hop. I didn't know this until long
ago.

Anyone who doesn't like hip-hop should give
<------him
a listen, and realise there is so much more to hip-hop than
first appears.
