Unfortunatly, those are about the only two easy (if they would work right) ways of doing it. You can also use CD-Writer software such as Nero to create an audio CD image (with the tracks you want to upload) and then make it mountable and upload it with Simple Burner as you would a normal CD. I use the RealOne version because it's a little easier than the CD image way, and it doesn't have the checkout thing OpenMG has...

Ok then here's a question. I have been considering getting a netMD for a while now but all this talk of shitty software is worrying. I have close to 20Gigs of mp3s all nicely labelled and sorted ;p
Question: Is this gonna be a royal waste o'money?

not at all. i think people are making a bigger deal out of it than it is. my software works fine, it's just not as fast as i'd like it to be. and though i dislike the concept of a "check out' limitation, in actuality it doesn't matter 'cause there is no way i'm going to need to put the same mp3 to MD more than three times. i love my net md, you shant be disappointed ithinks.

Yes I agree on that front but will I have to spend a lot of time converting my mp3s to an netMD compatible sub-format? If so in what way will this affect my mp3s?

when you opt for the prog to write the disk from mp3 it does the conversion for you before it transfers. i don't know a lot about the MD compression, but in lp mode (80 minutes per disk) there is no noticeable quality loss. i'm not sure lp2 (160 minutes) is noticeable either, but i haven't spent the time to compare.

but does it keep the conversion on the hard drive or does it simply do it on the fly into a buffer and then transmits that. I'm concerned that it may either duplicate my mp3s (converting and storing thus filling an extra 20gb) or that it may modify my mp3s.

Using RealPlayer you can choose if you'd like the NetMD formatted songs to be kept to allow for faster loading to your recorder, if for some reason you want to send the same files again. You can also turn this option off so it deletes NetMD formatted files. Either way, it never makes any changes to your actual mp3s.

openmd doesn't change your mp3s. while it is converting you will need the hd space for the converted files, but they are deleted i believe. sounds like realplayer does just fine as well.

any news on this?
Oh man wouldn't it be great if you could just use it as a floppy disk?
I mean transferring your samples/liverecordings in just a matter of seconds to your PC?

Tony: I you just want to play your mp3s get a mp3-player, transfering to a mp3 player is A LOT faster.
But for recording - then MD is interesting...
There actually is a md which can transfer from/to a pc without ANY restrictions - but it?s a pro model for 1500 $ and it only does it in real time (but I want one anyway! : )
