I know this is about the 100th Merzbow topic...

...sorry

but i'm thinkin' of buying a Merzbow album, so my question
to you is which one is a good one to start with?

opinions please

PS i know i might be banned or even hanged for posting
another Merzbow topic, though i thought i'd take the risk...

The track from that Warp poolparty mix really scared me :-p
I don't think i'm quite ready for this kind of music.

i downloaded some stuff... but to be honest it sounded all
the same to me, i think you really have to be 'into' his
sound to judge which album would be accesible to start
with...

Let me/us know what you think of SatansTornade if you hear
it Morton. I plaid it to a guy here and he loved it, had a
big smile on during 'Unlock the mysteries of the sun' but
others I play it to hate it or just can't listen.

i will, i even think i saw it in my recordshop last week, so
this afternoon i'll go and have a look, if it's there i'll
just buy it .. listening in the shop doesn't really work for
me,
i really have to be at home and play it while just sitting
and really listening to it, then i can give it time

you can listen to extracts on the warpsite.

I heard SatansTornade and it wasn't anything at first
because I'm used to Noise so I just shrugged it off and put
it to one side, then Uzim brought it up in conversion so I
plaid it more and now I'm hooked. I can't really add any
meaningful insight into it but it's great if you can get
your head around it and don't be put off. Just get into it
nuts deep and desensitize yourself to it. It's actually
pretty mellow for Noise and is made to listen to rather then
hurt. On headphones is best. After a joint on headphones is
fucking mint.

i can see my music taste developing into more noisy /
clicksandcutsy direction so i think i'll check satanstornade
out

I'm gonna smoke a big joint so I'm nice and gone and then
play it loud to myself in a dark room and see what happens.
Fun 4 dragons and I have nothing to do tonight.

bought the CD this afternoon..

I really like it already, esp. "unlock the mysteries of the
sun" and "track 5" i've got 4 speakers, so my entire room
was filled with the noise.. and i put a lot of bass in it..

really enjoyed it,
i expected it to be annoying, especially in the beginning,
but it wasn't

..and i liked it!

i like satanstornade very much too!

i have dharma, which i'd recommend as well (although the
first 3 tracks are a bit short, and the 4th too long - lasts
longer than the 3 first combined! -)
'piano space for marimo kitty' has a haunting piano loop all
over it, and the noise swirls over it... ^^

'music for bondage performance' (v.1) sounds a bit like
coil's 'how to destroy angels' if you know this. it's easier
to the ears, good too (even if i prefer the newer merzbow).

'a taste of...' is (almost) as noisy as the others, but in a
different way... more electronic i'd say...
when you start the cd you get a real feeling of being
drowned by the music!

thanks for the advice spikee..

i'll search for "a taste of.." also

i really like the stuff, but it mustn't get near 'hardrock',
i heard he did some thing with 'smegma' or something.. and
that it was more 'guitary' than electronix..
dunno if it's true though

i'll download some more merzbow i think..

:)

if you're getting into noise you MUST check Kevin Drumm -
sheer hellish miasma !
it's one of the best noise albums for me and is really good
introducion to noise.

start with: "music for bondage performance" (the first one)

then get his collab w/ genisis p'orridge: "a perfect pain"

if you dig merzbow, then i sugest mike patton's: "theme for
adult voice" which is an excellent cd for the novice
nihongo-noiZe connisour.

ah, Akita-san...will i EVER grow ill of your kinbaku-bi?

a UK online store that sells 'contemporary' music is what
i'm looking for... somewhere that sells Merzbow, Coil,
boredoms etc.
