just saw it for the fourth time on BBC2 tonight..
man, the part where they kill Pauline's mother always fucks me up. when they offer the mother the last piece of cake, when they start walking down the path, my stomach turns over.
and when they actually kill her..
such a great film. best Peter Jackson has done, imo.

yes..
breaks your heart doesn't it..?
you feel for the girls - you've been a part of their fantasies. but you also still really feel for the mother - she can't help it. so in the end you opt for the mother, ofcourse.

wow that's exactly how i feel...
i did see snippets of the film last night in which i saw the mother. pretty early on in the film. such sadness allready when she meets her daughters friend... as if she already knows it's the beginning of the end............

I didn't see it. My onscreen tv listing simply said "As BBC2" and so I didn't know it was on. I watched 'Series 7 - The Contenders' instead, then turned over to see another person getting twatted to death. Quite a jolly evening all round.
I would like to see this as it's the only Jackson film I've never seen but the story doesn't really interest me much.

its not so much about the story as in how he tells it. with fervour, I would say.
beautifully acted too.

thinking about it, I guess I think its his best because it combines his flair for visuals and great imagination (some wonderful special fx scenes in there..) with a story that has an interesting, quite deep psychological layer.

I actually didnt really like Heavenly Creatures..maybe because I read up on the case quite a bit..and the caricature monster they made out of the mother was a gross exageration..
Visually yes the movie is stunning and it has a lot of merits..but...

I loved Heavenly Creatures it was his first real accessible main stream film but his first full length movie "Bad Taste" is just so cool and really gory, as played by Peter Jackson himself. The movie is about an alien invasion of a small country town and the aliens wish to take humans away as food to serve in their fast food restaurants. There is a scene where Peter Jackson has fall down one of hills in and splits his head open on a rock, half his brains fall out and he goes around trying to shove his brains back into his head, and somehow sheeps brains are included in the mix. Much of Peter Jacksons movies are shot around my home town Wellington and some of my old punk buddies were extras in Braindead and they used one of our party houses for the filming.
One of his short film that is great value if you can find it is The Valley of the Stereos and all of the musicans here would get a real kick out of it :)

The only Peter Jackson movie I (think) haven't seen yet is 'Forgotten Silver'. Heavenly creatures surely is one of his better ones.
BTW for those who DID see Frighteners (another PJ movie starring Michael J Fox): Don't you think the baddie in Frighteners looks quite a lot like a ringwraith (LOTR)?

I really disliked "the frighteners".
I found the fx kind of disappointing.
did like the FBI agent ofcourse.. :)
bad taste is pretty good - they showed it late late LATE one night on BBC2 and then followed it with a short documentary on how Jackson made it. he built his own dolly, pretty impressive.

I think I maybe don't like Bad Taste cause I had it rammed down my throat by a Jackson fanboy. He insisted I buy it, then watched it with me and laughed everytime the name "Derrick" was mentioned, etc. I dunno, maybe if I hadn't given the vid to fanboy straight after it ended I would have given it another go ;)
The Frighteners was an alright film, bit all over the place though really.
I still find it weird that Jackson was entrusted with making LOTR. In fact, a lot of films are given to directors who hardly seem suitable at the time. Luckily there have been a few nice surprises (LOTR included).

this is one hellavah movie! i purchased the DVD the first time i saw it, it was so inventive with the girls make believe world, thats what stayed with me long after the movie was over.
the fact that it's a true story and unbeknownst to me i have read ann perry murder mystery novels. quite amazing that after serving her time she's now quite a popular novelist!
