imo, this was one of Jacks best performances that I've seen... just seemed more vulnerable maybe, and totally not what I expected of jack now... he seems like this cool cat in hollywood, and definitely not an old person in attitude I wouldn't say, but this movie he went all out portraying the elderly person... it was really good...

did you guys see where he spoofed ted danson by getting done up in blackface and a big afro wig in a tux? MAN! that was seriously the most chocking thing ive ever seen as far as comedy goes. not insulting or obscene, just a total shock seeing him like that!

this movie was very moving, what a tour de force for OLE jack, he finally played someone his own age. i wonder if he thought this is how is how my life MIGHT have been had i not been a hollywood big shot! ahhaha
i cried when he saw the picture his lil foster child had drawn for him, soooo sad and uplifting!
that family his daughter married into was WACK.....kathy bates is a GEM!!
(that scene with the RV couple, there must be something in the deleted scenes that WENT on there, kinky sex or something)
i'm gonna watch the deleted scenes and see for myself!

Its not a comedy really. More like a look into the life of an older man as his routines are thrown in the gutter, and he has to figure out what to do.

'Somber' is a great way to describe the flick.
it did have a very realistic feel to it. like, not all eventful and over-dramaticized. 1.76 thumbs up.

"I can't get over you guys. No drinking, no carousing, no carrying on at all. I thought you college kids - let me tell you something, and I want you to listen very hard. That test tomorrow is meaningless. The senselessness of it all is going to hit you someday like a ton of bricks."
I loved this movie! Jack was wonderful in it... maybe even better than in As Good As It Gets. It's all so recognisable (well... maybe not yet, but i'm sure when i retire i'll be thinking about this movie alot). And it was also much funnier than i had expected! The letters to Ndugu were all hilarious :-p

This was an excellent movie, and totally unexpectedly so. If nothing else, I can say it was worth the time because since I viewed it, every time I see an elderly person, I am nicer to them than I ordinarily would be. Not that I was ever gratuitously mean to them before, but I give them more respect and patience than before because the film gave me a new insight, or at least reminder, of how it sucks to get old and have young folks treat you like an idiot because they think you are old fashioned and stupid. I thought the film did a great job of putting you in the shoes of a senior citizen. Heck, it was so realistic I found myslef getting offended by the condescending behavior of the new boss and the store clerks and everything. Great movie.
