Hey Everyone,

I finally got Fruity Loops, and I can't play midi files for
some reason, and I can play them on other programs. I
checked the help file, but it just suggests checking the
midi output, which I did.

Another thing, it seems I can't change the length of the
fruity loops song I want to make. I can only get about 4
seconds of it, and it's registered and everything.

If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

-Eric

you need to select SONG instead of PATTERN, there 2 little
lights near the tempo display - i think

it's just the record thing i am trying to get the hang of
... i figured out the midi stuff ... i guess you have to
record a wave in a whole different program, which is fine, i
just don't get why it has this record thing. :P

the record function is for the automation process.

with the amount of time you are spending asking us, you
could be using google to search for the manual and tips and
tricks of which there are like 100 websites.

it records midi commands from your (computer) keyboard or
any other midi input that you plug in.

fruity loops?

haha ok no for real
the record function can be a bit difficult to get on top
of.

Took me and Pro(xy) a bit of headscratching to get it
happening.

Basically if you want to record knob tweaks like rebirth,
just set one pattern for tweaks, don't put any drums or
anythign in the apttern, justr a blan one and have the
channel selected when you tweak.
ie select the pattern, press rec and make sure it's on SONG
rather than loop and play and twiddle away.

You can have a bunch of patterns each with differetn tweaks
aswell but its a little harder to explain

when you play midi in a mix, it seems you have no choice but
for it to play the whole four beats through. that kinda
blows considering most of my samples i wanted to use midi,
and even if i do get a sample based on the C note, would i
have to get a sample for D, E, F, F#, etc.?

i figured out that i can't use soundfonts for fruityloops
3.3, which is what i have. how do you guys usually change
notes for something, let's just say if i got a C note choir
sample, can i transpose that and not have it sound like a
chipmunk?

Probubly not, especially if you just have one sample of the
choir sound in C. You would have to search for multiple
samples of that or a similar sound and then keymap it out a
bit.

try and just work around one octave if you cant find a
higher or lower note of the same sound. Any higher then an
octave and it sounds all messed up and chimpmunky.

if you can't use FruityLoops or feel it has nothing to
offer, it's probly an "error 40". That means that the
problem is caused by something sitting 40cm from the
monitor.

i always use fruityloops

I found it simple too, but then, it does have its roots in
trackers & re-birth so maybe that's why I picked it up so
easily...

Actually, I'm getting the hang of it right now, it's just
that there are some issues I run into. For instance, in
record (automated mode) when I fiddle around with different
things, like the decay, and other stuff, it seems to just
stop and wait at the beginning but there is still about a
minute's worth of stuff to be played. Is there a way around
that? Perhaps I have a certain time limit locked in or
something.

Also, when it comes to sampling, how do some of you go about
creating some really weird sounds, like aphex twin type
stuff?
