Has anyone seen his show

He's GREAT !!!! (but scary)

He was at the dog track, and he took this guy's loosing
ticket over to the booth and gave it to the woman who
wouldn't pay out, cause it was a lossing ticket.

Derren SLAMMED his hand on the window of the booth and said
"this is a winning ticket, give the man his money" or words
to that effect. The woman looked a bit confused but payed
the guy like £400 !!!

After he had the money he pointed out that mistakes cannot
be rectified as stated in the Terms and conditions, and
toold her to check the ticket. She could not belive that she
had just payed out on a loosing ticket !!

MIND CONTROL SERIES
The transmission date seems to have finally been fixed for
the 6 part series. It starts on Friday 28th February on
Channel 4. This is the series which has been previewed a few
times on the E4 MindControl Nights.

DERREN BROWN LIVE
At last, here are the details of the Spring tour. Booking
numbers given for each venue. This show booked out every
night for its two week run in Bristol last year, and dozens
of people were turned away each evening. So be sure to book
early.

Whenever he can, Derren tries to make himself accessible
after the show so feel free to hang around a bit in the bar
if you want to say hello.

Also, bear in mind that several of these theatres will not
be taking bookings yet for the show. If they seem unaware of
the show, that's why.

NO ADMISSION FOR UNDER 12s. ALL DETAILS SUBJECT TO POSSIBLE
CHANGE.

The guys a fool, man. Anyone can do his tricks. Because
that's what they are - tricks. It only works on the
weak-minded who can't help but follow his subtext.

Think of a object. it could be anything. Think of it RUNNING
in your mind. Think of it TRICKLING into your thoughts. HOLD
that thought. CONTAIN that thought. Let any other thoughts
just POUR away.

It's a bottle of water. Do you get it? That's what that cunt
does with everyone. Except you don't get to see the 80 out
of 100 people who are too clever to be influenced. You just
get to see the 20 retards who can't think for themselves.

Well said bill_hicks. I hope you hold similar views on David
Blaine.

Did you see the paper, scissors, stone episode. I can't
believe that people are that susceptible to suggestion that
he can force them to play either paper, scissors or stone by
just waving his hand in their face in the form of a pair of
scissors.

I just hope when these saps get home and see themselves on
the TV that they see just how they got duped.

David Blaine is even worse. He goes around pretending that
has has these paranormal powers whereas at least Derren
admits that it is a trick.

Exactly. And while some of them are blatantly obvious, you
can't explain all of them. Or maybe you can Bill,
considering your astounding intellect *rolls eyes*

What ones do you want to know? There was a program that
explained them all a few months ago. Secrets of street
magicians or something.

I dunno. The one you mentioned was easy, just like the 3 of
diamonds trick where he made a diamond with his hands and
pointed in the air there times, and the one "I want you to
think of any letter, mmm?" were easy. But I watch the
program and there's usually at least one that's got me
completely stumped. Watch it Friday and see if you can
explain em all, I'll write a running commentary if you
really want.

Bill: Those programs suck. They only explain the ones that
everyone can guess. Well anyone who's actually got a brain.
I'm still waiting for someone to explain the Penn & Teller
Bullet trick. Now that's a good trick. I can't fathom how
they manage it. Can someone here explain? Maybe you can
Bill, you seem to be a leading authority on these things.

Jar: Word bitch!

I tend to think if you watch his show after having a smoke
it makes it that much easier to see where the deception is
taking place.

Most of them just involve watching peoples reactions but
it's knowing what reaction you need to verify that they've
got what you want.

I want to see this ticket one. I need to see his actual
actions and hear exactly what he said. Is there a
transcription anywhere?

offline Jarworski from The Grove (United Kingdom) on 2003-03-24 07:30 [#00613156]

Bill - well I've been waiting on my dealer for three months
now, so maybe if I ever get to smoke a joint again I'll be
more receptive to the deceptions.

Ginge - I doubt if you can get it online, and I think they
just repeat the programs once, like the week after it aired
or something. Look out for them on kazaa maybe?

offline martinhm from York (United Kingdom) on 2003-03-24 07:37 [#00613167]

the ticket one was quite impressive, but I guess it all
hinges on the same principle as the rest of his stuff.

Although he does admit that anyone can do the tricks he
does, he wouldn't want them to, because that would make him
less special. He played at my hall of residence in Bristol
some years ago when he was first starting out. You could see
that he was full of himself, enjoying the adulation and
bewilderment of the people he tricked.

In the episode where he goes to Oxford and everyone is
wearing tuxedos, he admits that he is nomally used to being
the best-dressed person in the room. You could see that he
was slightly unnerved, because half of his trick is for him
to establish himself as superior to his 'victim'.

here's one for you, david blaine's levitation trick.
i remember seeing a program on magicians secrets or whatever
and somebody explained how he did it. well, i've forgotten
how they said he did it, but i saw it again recently and i
just couldn't figure it out. it looks so real.
does anybody know how he does it?

" You could see that he
was slightly unnerved, because half of his trick is for him

to establish himself as superior to his 'victim'."

Yes, I think a lot of his skill is based on self projection,
making himself appear more powerful etc. than he is. If
people feel intimidated by him they're more likely to be
compliant. A cheap equivalent is to stand too close to
people and look them in the eye.

offline pOgO from behind your belly button fluff on 2003-03-24 08:31 [#00613277]

well he does actuall admit that nothing he does is
particulaly amazing, he even shows you how to do it !

Loads of people do it it just so happens that he does it
really well.

He also has a photographic memory which is a litlle harder
to master ! He;s a great artist too

This one is the king of all dupes. I think I'm right in
saying that what you see on television is not how Blaine
performs the levitation in front of the crowd. Their
reactions are real enough though, because it looks
impressive when done right. However the Magicians' Circle is
getting fed up with amateurs trying it out in front of
people and giving the secret away (that's the Web for you).
It's all too easy to cock up because it only works for a
select audience within a certain radius standing behind the
performer (that's why Blaine always tells them to stand
closer together).

Anyway I'm not a member of the Magicians' Circle and
couldn't care less if it ruins Blaine's career (in fact I'd
be delighted if it did), so just look up Balducci
levitation
and you should find everything you need to
know.

Quite a good show, very funny and entertaining. The first
half was better, he just did stuff that he said anyone can
do, he was pointing out things that your brain
pathologically chooses. The second half was a bit more
mystical and more pompous imo. A few things didn't work, and
while it was good because it showed he was only human, it
wasn't exactly fun to watch. A decent night out though.
Shame I was half pissed through most of it.
