tinky mah dinky from the uk on 2001-09-07 11:00 [#00029994]

is coil some rock band?

Sound Assassin from Patent Office UK on 2001-09-07 12:32 [#00030013]

Nope, more like avant garde elctronica, sept it's really
hard to classify them since they've done so much stuff
encorporating tons of different styles of music.

They are an amazing experience live!

I liked love's secret domain a lot. It had a really good
complicated sound quality given the equipment accessible in
the time it was made.

Id Lab from The Untitled Kingdom on 2001-09-07 21:39 [#00030088]

And the band who wrote Tainted Love, as made famous by Soft
Cell. Also, more relevantly, appeared with Aphex Twin on
Further Down the Spiral. It's all connected. I like Coil,
though I'm not familiar with the tracks recommended above. I
feel an Audiogalaxy session coming on.

Yeah black light district is awesome!

two tape decks!

Have fun.

Don't know Coil. Thought you were talking about This Mortal
Coil. I love Throbbing Gristle "20 Jazz Funk Greats".

e~e()~e from gaga on 2001-09-08 21:29 [#00030275]

mortal coil is coil.. or has coil members..
throbbing gristle's "hamburger lady".. creapy song used to
scare the piss out of me.. then they also have a track with
just answering machine messages left by crazed fans...

switzer! from noway hose on 2001-09-08 21:47 [#00030277]

This Mortal Coil and Coil have absolutely nothing to do with
each other. They're completely different bands.

coil also does a lot of remixing for NIN.
my favorite is the kick ass remix of "gave up" on Fixed.
my favorite coil album is
unnatural history II

Sound Assassin from The Studio on 2001-09-09 19:23 [#00030373]

Yeah, the Hellraiser themes are much better than the
orchestral score that was eventually used, _ a wicked
version of first dark ride at the very end as a bonus track!

f.l.e.a from NZ on 2001-09-09 22:10 [#00030394]

Love Coil!!
btw..Coil are one of the core originators /instigators of
Industrial (though not in the shape or form or state
Industrial is right now :( ) with Stinky being one of the
founding members of the first industrial band THrobbing
Gristle

f.l.e.a from NZ on 2001-09-09 22:13 [#00030395]

Horse Rotervator is the essential Coil album it's a lot more
accessible than some of their later stuff and fine intro to
a repetoire that kept getting darker and stranger (but in a
very very good way)

Throbbing Gristle's 20 Jazz Funk Greats . . . Jeeeeesus. I
once had to work in a record shop with the worst hangover
ever, and the guy I was working with put that LP as loud as
the shop's PA would go . . . I have never felt such mental
torment.

"What a dull day, what a dull, dull day..."
