I just noticed that Warpmart now sells NI traktor. Anyone
here DJ with Traktor?

What do you think?

i think Traktor is brilliant. i don't use it
"professionally", but it's fun to play around with.

Its has some pretty nifty features, the interface is much
simpler that any other program, I used to use mixvibes until
I realized it was a toy.

It's pretty good with a midi controller- if someone made a
decent scratch mixing crossfader midi controller for it and
improved the scratch emulation a bit (it doesn't appear to
support force feedback at the moment :( ) it'd be amazing. I
also want the scratching to work by pushing/pulling the
mouse rather than moving it from side to side... far more
natural.

that would have been a great idea!
but what do i do to monitor the music in my headphones,
while the other channel is playing? do i need to have a
second soundcard?

What is it / how does it work?

yup gotta get two, then you might as well hook it up two a
real mixer and mix the mp3 manually.

thats how I saw afx do it with a laptop anyway.

You can do it (use headphones) with one card, provided it
supports surround sound and you just want the mix to come
out of 2 speakers.

2 laptops and a physical mixer would be good as it would
help prevent the likelihood of a crash (on one laptop I can
see punter not liking 3 minutes silence whilst it
reboots)... however- if you did that, you'd lose the benefit
out auto synching the beats levels etc, unless there is some
special network plugin for it I don't know about.

I dont think anything can replace having two direct drive
turntables...

but traktor is really fun. It would be nice if you could
have MIDI control over the track its self... so you could
scratch with MIDI device with a slide fader....

I dont know if I would ever dj a big set with it, but maybe
a small little get together

I played with it a couple of times and it's actually quite
good. Provided you mix with clear, simple beats, it's really
good at beatsyncing automaticly. Another feature that I
really like is the loopfunction so you can have a loops
running while you scratch on the other "deck". It's the
first program where I could mix something properly with.

i need a better processor for live use, but the hi, low and
mid cut filters are absolut brilliant..

it can have a very hard time detecting complex beats, but
you can fix that pretty easily with the beat tapping
function. dunno why, but i miss the "scratch-buttons" from
the first version, especially teh backspin

...reeewiind!!

"rewind the track, spin the record and take it back"

After getting my turntables several months back, I pretty
much shelved Traktor as I no longer had any need for it. I
have recently gotten back into it out of neccessity as I
needed to play some MP3s last time I was DJing (as well as
vinyl and Cd) and I have actually come to really like it.
I've been practicing with it the past few days and find it's
very handy for near perfect beat mixing with only seconds to
spare (you seldom have to resort to just slamming the fader
to the other channel).

My main criticism would lie with the lack of a real
crossfader making it a pain for dnb and hip hop (I have to
use a rotary midi controller- good for the other things like
the EQ/filters, etc. but I think crossfaders ought to be
sliders). It'd be nice if a company made an official traktor
midi controller (read "midi-send mixer") with a layout that
mimicked that onscreen. Other than that a "smooth" back into
sync button would be nice (perhaps a curve control on it) as
it's noticeable when two tracks are playing together and
they are say, only 1/16th out and it suddenly jumps back in
time, whereas if it was done gently (like twisting the
spindle on a turntable) people would never notice they were
falling out of time.

As it is, I'm waiting for one of my mates to get the Final
Scratch 1.1 (which includes a final scratch compatible
version of traktor) and see what that can do.

there are some indicators on the side of each deck...when
they are off-sync you use the pitch bend buttons, right?

I think records are passe. It seems to me that mp3 is far
easier for modern DJs. Doesn't Vibert and others just do
laptop mp3 sets now?

don't think vibert is too keen on that. haven't seen any pic
of him flippin those mp3's either....he's too old-skool, i
mean, just look at him.

I'm selling my records if anyone is interested... I have
lots... I'm getting tracktor and I have no need for vinyl
anymore!

Most of the rephlex chaps seem to use a mixture of vinyl and
traktor when DJing.

Souvlakia, I'd wait till you get traktor and decide you like
it first!

I do like being able to "try out" mixes in traktor with mp3s
before buying the record. Sometimes, I'll think "Hmm, such
and such a track would work well here..." then buy a record
and it doesn't quite work.

I used a tractor while DJing sadly I ran over and killed
23.5 people and as a result had my fee withheld for the
evening. Life is so unfair sometimes :(|)

I'd much rather have this...

Traktor without 2 soundcards is shit, c?Also someone tell me
that Tracktor have not so good sound quality.. Who cares...

traktor doesnt even support two soundcards anymore, you have
to have a card with multiple stereo outs. But traktor is
quite nice, I use it daily. Another good piece of mixing
software is virtual turntables, its old but supports winamp
plugins, including the high quality nitrane mp3 decoding
engine! SWEET
I must own a technics dz 1200... I wish I was rich
