I have over 100 cds that ive got over the past 2 years, but one way or another ive gotten 1 or 2 burns for some reason. Here's the story: awhile ago my friend found a burn of richard d james album, so i had access to a friends burner, and currently did have money so i burnt it *owch* recently i broke the burnt copy, because i felt this as a big injustice to the work of Richard. I also through a similar process got a copy of shadows pre-emptive strike, i own endtroducing by buying it, but i feel morally bad for this..So my question is..if you have bought about a 100 with your own money, is it bad to have a burn or two..i feel right now, having full cds burnt is terrible..so should i break my pre-emptive strike? and just buy it soon (im really short on money though, saving up for other cds) I feel morally confused

hmm... well i have burnt many many many cds and aphex twin and his other aliases are among those, heres what it comes down to plain and simple: i buy what i can of his, and ive even ordered his two videos "windowlicker" and "come to viddy". i buy everything i can of his, and not shit online because its far far too expensive and is not in my price range. so i burn what i cab't buy. and now i have all the afx stuff. and i feel damn good about it.

here's my angle really quick. always keep in mind that economy is simply a means to an end. i.e. that it is here so that we can exist in large numbers of population, and be able to get the necessary work done. money acts as a motivational force in order to get everyone to work. personally i think that ART should have no place in a system like this, because it can lead to the corruption of that Art. thus, rip away to your hearts content. only start to question your actions when you see musical artist you support start to go broke. don't you think it would be a better thing for you to copy a cd, and give the money that would have spent to a charity?
also, this whole mp3 thing is making the economic world realize that media is no long constrained to physical realms. a song can just be a 0 or a 1 on your hard drive.... of which can be duplicated infinitely. One day we will have to pay for napster, and personally i support that. i'd rather pay 5 bucks a month to get all the music i want than pay 15 bucks for a cd with a few songs that i want from it. ... but that's just my angle.

thankyou Guys...yeah art, to me, i make music and cds, and i will for the most part give them out for free, because i'm not going to charge people. Id rather have them know it comes from my love for music, than a need for money.

ross: totally. i make some tracks here and there and tons of art shit on my comp/by hand then into the computer and i always give it away or give it for another form of music or art by someone else... i like to think of it as sharing of peoples art that expresses themselves. that shits great... iam all for iT!

I've often thought about the piracy/charity thing, but really you are effectively really making the manufacturer of whatever you are pirating "donate" their profits without consent.
Mind you, I have a custom burn of "BoC rarities" which consist solely of discontinued tracks and I don't see anything wrong with that.
