For rock, definitely Elvis or the Beatles. For music in general, fuck if I know.

music is allll about personal preferance. The idea of a thread asking what is the most influencial is stupid. The only way one could answer that for sure would be to take the set of people making music worldwide (good luck on compiling that) and then somehow delve into their minds and draw forth the album(s) that were the most influencial to them (simply asking them wouldn't suffice). Let you take this list (couple of billion entries at the least) and first the slbum the crops up the most. And what do you have ? The most influencial album ever. I why would you want to know ? Fuck knows ? Music is about emotion. You only listen to it because it produces an emotional response that on some lvl you enjoy. You don't listen to it because others listen to it or are influenced by it and if you do then shame on you!!!

"The idea of a thread asking what is the most influencial is stupid"
why do people analyse everything all of a sudden? when people ask what's the best rock album or best idm album, people just answer their favorite release without asking questions.
people have got to stop taking everything so seriously. the sake of this thread was to create a discussion on influential albums. if you really expected this thread to find out precisely what the most inflential album ever really is, than than it's not the thread that's stupid.

and btw, if you wanted to really find out what that album would be, you wouldnt have to go through the minds of EVERUONE. ever heard of surveys? it's a statistical tool that's between 95 and 99.9% accurate.
just wanted to clear that out!

I conducted a study last night, asking 6 billion people (give or take a few), and the findings are conclusive.
The Beatles- Sgt. Pepper=most influential album ever.

For electronic music I know for sure that the most influential artist of all time was kraftwerk.
But I was born in '86 so I haven't experienced the first years of kraftwerk.
Same goes for the whole question: Most influential album of all time. I dunno, I haven't experienced the beatles etc in their years so I can't tell.

I don't care what you say ask the majority of the people what album influenced them the most and they will say one of the beatles album
The beatles while simple, did things that changed the way music was played, they broke out of that box...did experimental things that was not being done at that particular time, I think the fact that you don't like rock has influenced your jaded opinion.
