Wow, support for Area 51 & Cruisn USA...
Shame about the size, makes the neo-geo games look efficient
:P

"It has taken [mame.dk] a little longer to update the
site due to
support for the new diskimage system used by the CoJag
system performed by
our favorite mame artist Aaron Giles. But beware this is not
for modem
users and low bandwidth dsl as the smallest disk image is
about half a
Gig - but isnt it smaller in a zip you may ask ... No! the
disk images is
already compressed.

Besides the CoJag games as Area 51, Vicious Circle and
Maximum Force
Aaron also added stuff like Cruisn USA and Hard Drivin but
these is not
for people with ghetto-pc."

Half a gig for those 2 games you say?

Oh yes, I finally got to try DC MAME the other night- I have
to admit I only tried a couple of games, but I'm not that
impressed. Maybe it's jsut that my monitor is bigger than my
TV, but I though the graphics weren't as good...

Emulating the more recent games isnt that good cause of the
equipment you use to play the game. eg: ummm... Dance Dance
Revolution?

But its all good I suppose.

I know, I forsee mame drying up in the coming year- they've
emulated pretty much up to the end of "normal" games. Okay,
there'll be the odd one like tekken 4 etc... but aside from
a few, most arcade games of recent years have been
"gimmicky"- relying on hardware that would be too expensive
to buy just for one game, e.g. lightgun games, Dance dance
revolution etc.

and Dreamcast has that "Arcady" type feel to there games
aswell.

But yeah, the image sizes for some of these games are
getting out of hand.

But we got the classic under the belt... so thanks MAME for
the memories :D

Yep, all the arcade games I really care about are already
emulated. That's definately a good thing. Now, once the
Virtua & Daytona era games are finished too (they're getting
close...) I think I'll be a happy man. BTW Ikaruga is
amazing. I can't wait to play it 2 player... I think this is
the game that'll force me to get the x-arcade stick and a
VGA box :)

I tell you what I like most about arcade emulation....

Take Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam for example:

The sound is very dynamic and has alot of impact... Probably
due to the fact that that machine is in a room with 10 other
arcade machines.

The sound effects on the Arcade version of MK1 are heaps
better than any console. :)

Jand: Yep, I grew up near a seaside resort trips to the
arcade were a regular occurance. I remember playing old
arcade games since I was about 5, having to sit on stools to
reach the joystick :) Did I send you Metal Slug & Samuri
Showdown on those disks?

Princo re: Arcade sound. You're right- arcade amchines had
to compete for attention in an arcade as a result the sounds
tend to be very distinct and loud. Take Smash TV, Robocop
and 720 Degrees as prime examples. Very loud and very
distictive. I once walked into an arcade and knew there was
a Robocop machine before I saw it (It was actually a couple
of rows away!) and went and played it as a result.
