I really like the look of Silence is Sexy. I think that the
whole cover and inside and cd book is gorgeous. *licks*

i saw EN once live in concert at a big festival. it was the
only concert *ever* that i left when the second song was
performed.

don't get me wrong: i really like EN. but it was years ago
and i didn't really understand their music. i was more into
"sisters of mercy" and "the mission" that time...

cheers,
.a

LeCoeur > i love Sabrina... : )
do you like it even though you find it scary?

here is my little opinions/descriptions for E.N albums...

Kollaps (1981)
- their first album, described by many as noise... i don't
think it's noise at all (except the beginning of Steh Auf
Berlin, which is the noise of a pneumatic drill ; )), but it
is not the easier to get into. apart from the title track,
Kollaps, which is longer, more elaborated and is one of the
tracks that for me suit one mood perfectly that no other
tracks manages to suit (in that case... the feeling that you
have problems you still manage to cope with, but you fear
you will not be able to bear the situation you're in any
longer... and you're feeling sick about this), no tracks
really stand out of their own. the rest of the album is more
like a collage of audio fragments and raw songs, which
create together the ambiance of the album. this album is
like an industrial town after the war, living on their own
with the debris of collapsed buildings and other stuff... it
is not their best album, but still interesting.

Zeichnungen Des Patienten O.T. (1983)
- their harshest and hardest to get into. this album is
really sick, sounds like it's been made by dangerous psychos
in an asylum, screaming and creating disturbing ambiances
with metallic objects and stuff... the chaos is just
organized enough to produce the sickness. Blixa said in an
interview that the entire album (each track?) was related to
fire, but that he only became aware of that connection when
the album has been finished!! ...the lyrics are sometimes
weird and as disturbing as the music, like nightmares ('Neun
Arme', 'DNS-Wasserturm',...)
the shortest track is also the most unbearable (for me at
least): 'Finger und Zähne' is only nine seconds of fingers
cracking and teeth grinding. the rest of the album is more
complex that this, but it gives you an idea of the ambiance!
; )
the last track, 'Die Genaue Zeit' (in the original vinyl
edition... in fact, it's the last

track before the bonus tracks) explains the purpose of E.N,
is a bit their manifesto: it's a countershock, against the
normalization of every music which are all going "muzak" and
the same, they committed Zeichnungen... (and Kollaps was
probably in the same spirit too) : )

Halber Mensch (1985)
- the last of their "psycho noisy" period, this one deals
with decay of humans... it is less noisy, but still very raw
and a bit sick to listen to. the title and first track
(starting with a choir, it sounds almost like a
ceremonial...) is about the "half man", guided all the way
and being taken care of, like a pet, losing his humanity,
having no responsabilities... "he who is in parts has
nothing to impart"...
other tracks, for example, tells a little story of a drunk
man who lets his "merry cup" of alcohol fall into a pit,
then falls in the pit as well trying to recover it - only to
get eaten by the beasts in the pit, gnawing his body to the
bones. and other happy things like that, burning souls, the
C.N.S. getting berserk, the death being a dandy on a horse
(?!)... highlight of the album is Yü-Gung (Fütter Mein
Ego), a panicked rhythmic track with mad lyrics about
feeding your ego and other stuff... razor blades are used
against mirrors as instruments on this track... (Yü-Gung is
a character of a chinese tale btw).
this album also features Sand, a cover of Lee Hazelwood...
love and tenderness mixed with sick E.N style. neat. : )

Fuenf Auf Der Nach Oben Offenen Richterskala (1987)
- in-between their old, destructive, psycho and their new,
reconstructive era, this album is also my favorite... it
starts with Zerstoerte Zelle, which is such a strong track a
video could hardly ever make this track justice! if you're
looking for a "descent to hell" song, it's there... : ) it
alternates between quiet and loud moments in such a way
you're obliged to listen to it loud... chaos organized,
panick and brillance... after Zerstoerte Zelle comes a cover
of Grateful Dead, Morning Dew, which is as

great as Zerstoerte Zelle in a different way - this track is
not far from perfection, is weird in the style of the album,
somewhat romantic and at the same time really rocks - you
cannot really sit still and listen to it! same goes with the
fourth track, MoDiMiDoFrSaSo... with more madness and even a
humorous aspect, MoDiMiDoFrSaSo seems to be Blixa expressing
how glad he is that he isn't immortal, caught into an
endless cycle of time! the lyrics are at the same time
panicked and funny (especially the beginning)... "my head is
a labyrinth, my life is a minefield, hooray! hooray!
hallelujah!!" .....the other tracks of the album are more
quiet (well... it's not really quiet, it's rather like the
energy and anger is kept in control, but still there...),
but still as good... Kein Bestandteil Sein ("want to be no
part of it") is a track i can really relate to. want to be
no part of the humanity / world / etc. the album ends with
Adler Kommt Spaeter, a more chaotic version of Zerstoerte
Zelle and a perfect ending...

Haus Der Luege (1989)
- the one with the neat 'red horse' cover! ^^ in a different
style, a bit more unequal, but contains some real gems...
after a poetry?/noise intro, Feurio! is one of their
strongest tracks (and has been issued as a single), heavy
and rocking... Ein Stuhl in der Hölle (a chair in hell) is
a sad little tale put in music... the title track is a
masterpiece by itself, almost making the first half of the
album a concept-album... it describes the "house of lies",
floor after fool, both the music and the lyrics building to
a climax: at the top floor, god sits in a corner, dead
angels at his feet, and shots himself - "god has shot
himself, a top floor can be renovated!"... besides, this
track makes a really nice play on words, with "geschoss"
(floor), "schoss" (knees), "geschossen" (shot), among some
others;... after the epilog, Fiat Lux (Fiat Lux and
Maifiestspiele, not Hirnlego) comes as the calm after the
tempest... this track is almost ambient, and brilliant a

as well... Hirnlego and Schwindel are deceiving compared to
the other tracks of the album, Hirnlego interrupting the
beauty of Fiat Lux at the and Schwindel sounding almost like
a music for commercials! it's not that bad tracks actually,
not enough to skip them, but they are below par... the last
track (not counting the bonus tracks), Der Kuss, is a nice
ending. i don't see how to describe it but
"western-movie-style love song". sadly, the album barely
lasts for half an hour, and the bonus tracks are
worthless... (besides, a misprint makes the two remixes of
Feurio! the same played twice! and that remix isn't even
good really) i just skip them. but even with these flaws, it
remains a fine album, which deserves to be owned for the
highlights (and the album cover ; )), as well as to see
another side of E.N.

Tabula Rasa (1993)
- apart from the cover art, not very appealling at all, this
is a very good E.N album, "new era"! every track is good and
different... Die Interimsliebenden really rocks, Blume is
surprising and beautiful (with a female singer instead of
Blixa's), 12305(te Nacht) is more industrial and my
favorite, Wüste has a very nice warm and slightly exotic
ambiance (one of the instruments used for the track is sand,
hence the title, meaning 'desert')... Headcleaner, the last
track, contrasts with the others strongly and is an over 15
minutes track dealing with totalitarism (the 'headcleaner'
being a political brainwashing instrument)...

Ende Neu (1996)
- one of my favorites, maybe my favorite after
Richterskala... a bit ressemblant to Tabula Rasa, with a
rocking track (Was Ist Ist), an usual beautiful one (Stella
Maris), a very nice calm one (Die Explosion Im
Festspielhaus)... Was Ist Ist includes blanks in the lyrics,
in which the listener can put any words he wants to; Die
Explosion Im Festspielhaus includes a pencil in the
instruments... NNNAAAMMM is a very good dancey industrial
track (Installation No.1 is too), which sounds a bit out of
place in the album but still v

ery addictive (the title, meaning New No New Age Advanced
Ambient Motor Music Machine, is a joke about long silly
composed names for genres of music ("intelligent dance
music" anyone? ^^ ) ). there is something in this album i
find special, i can't really explain... maybe it is the
matureness and little innovations of the tracks... i don't
know. the ending, Der Schacht Von Babel, is a bit mysterious
- "our viewpoint was too high before, we're digging the pit
of Babel"... the pit of Babel? humans always greedy, have
been punished for making the tower of Babel, now try digging
the pit of Babel? or are they deceived by the world in the
surface, and trying to make their own society underground?
maybe...

Silence Is Sexy (2000)
- totally different than their previous E.N from the 80's...
if you're searching for noisy E.N, Silence Is Sexy will
disappoint you. but it is a fine rock album, in which
nothing collapses anymore maybe, though with its very good
moments. Sabrina is a dark, soft and melancholic song (with
strong bass) i love. Newtons Gravitätlichkeit and Zampano
are attempts for more electronic songs, with a faster beat,
and the result is pleasant... Die Befindlichkeit Des Landes
and Sonnenbarke are excellent melancholic tracks. the title
track, as the name implies, consists of long voids of
silence, interrupted by some notes of bass, Blixa's lyrics
and the sounds of a cigarette...

still wondering, should i sign up as a supporter or not?

it's one of my favorite bands, yeah, but still...
$35 is a bit much, it's almost twice the price of a cd...

Lee Hazelwood is a crazy artist...not quite all
country...just bizzare pop...anyways....he had this really
brilliant and vauge-O duet with Nancy Sinatra, called 'Some
Velvet Morning'. Anybody interested in some weird music
should definitely check out that guy...especially that
song.

Also that song has been covered by Slodive (on the US
release of Souvlaki) and Primal Scream (on Evil Heat, as a
duet featuring Kate Moss)

been relistening to Richterskala and Silence is Sexy lately.
what a great band.

Silence is Sexy is a super-well put together album, spilling
over with ideas... like a quasi-industrial version of Talk
Talk or something.
