yeah he does, one of my good friends who loves techno thinks he does a lot of random beats, i want to smack him sometimes, i poke fun at techno all the time around him. Techno, as in the repetetive, highly unoriginal, generic music.

I'm a musician, and I think random beats can be very inspiring. I sometimes just push some buttons while I skip through the tracker channels.
After that I notice a feeling in that beat (or melody) and I change some things to make it sound like I want it to sound.
And Bucephalus rules!

first off, i am a musican. second, Bucephalus is pimp (ever try playing with the tempo on that one? heh), and last: The argument is simply classifying that all afx fans are set contained only in a part of a larger set of people who are musicians. -- So if anyone wants to "argue that" then you just need to find one instance of a twin fan who is not a musician. -- well i do know one guy who is more of a rave/rock kinda guy. i don't really know him as a musically creative guy though... But I also don't think he really appreciates rdj either. he doesn't own anything, but he says he likes it, and does like it when i throw on a few songs in the playlist. -- Other than that everyone I know personally who likes twin is musically talented in one way or another.
Anyone know any musically inept ppl who worship twin as much as we?

Iam a HUGE aphex twin fan and I have been for some time... im 18 years olf. Im very much so into creating my own beats/music. He is what inspired me to do so, but it is important to mention that I have been in a band since grade 7 which is a LONG time ago, and ive been playing an instrument since I was 4. I think that a lot of AFX fans are born into music.... as are many other people born into different things. I believe that if we are to like AFX a lot then we see music as being something different from the worlds top 40 charts...

It also goes to say that its not like RDJ is in a catagory of his own.. well he is, but I mean there are other very talented people who I could go on and name here, but won't that fit in with AFX. They too are something different to listen to. inspirational, but it was RDJ who first did it for me.

the reason a lot of people who like this type of music hate pop music is because It's basically a preformulated song, and most of the people in the top 40 REALLY don't have any talent (take eminem for example, he raps out of tune AND time, so they call him a pioneer, and he makes a big deal about his past when most people live like him nowdays, that sorta thing REALLY pisses me off, and plus he doesn't write his songs, just the lyrics, which are shit)but It's like we are gothics or anything, we are fanatical but that doesn't mean we're just trying to be different, most aphex twin fans that I know hardly even mention the fact, whereas the people who listen to shitty pop music are open to say that they listen to it, and sometimes even try to force it onto you, and It's because it's catchy, they can't stand to think when they listen, so it has to be so catchy that it is subliminally picked up even if you're not paying attention, that is what pop music is, some people think that techno is repetitive, I think pop music is, come up with something new and start experimenting for god sakes, that's what the bettles did and people loved them for it, and that's why we like aphex twin, not because we're trying to be different, but just because it is, it's something new that hasn't been done, everytime he releases something, and no-one else I know even comes close, music lovers love aphex twin, socialites love pop music, who deserves music more, the music lovers or the socialites?

I have made 3 drill & bass trax and although the beats sometimes sound random, they usually aren't.

Techno music repetitive - One reason is to allow the listener to dance whilst off his / her head. I tried dancing to Cliff Richard once whilst under the influence of mdma, it was not fun. When I observe a full dance floor with everyone moving their bodies to the same beat, with their head buzzing. I think to myself "Yes this is the reason for being alive, being so happy and content. 0 % Sadness 110% Happiness".
The body has limited mechanics, the brain on the other hand has unlimited movements, theoretically the brain can travel through time (not the actual lump of meat, but the thoughts / ideas that are in your head). Music like this can accompany our minds when we travel through time.
I experience a much greater feeling when I listen to Braindance music with headphones. When listening through speakers interference of external sounds / air cause some of the magic to be lost.

I thought of this idea for a song, where It is basically about 20 portions of the one song, that is played on a random playlist so that it is never the same but still flows, I think it would be really good, but I can't make it as of yet, but I think it's a pretty good idea, and I haven't heard of anything else doing stuff like that so it's an original idea too!! I think that it would be good for zoning out, when you feel like listening to music, but don't want the same thing played again

*******Concept Ideas*******
1.
A cd is purchased that is blank.
With the purchase many drugs are given away free.
Instructions for use - Eat all drugs and put blank cd into cd player. One will be so twatted he / she will start to hear sounds.
2.
I am going to release an ambient record.
It will not be a traditional cd, md, lp or tape. It will be one of those big shells (conch).
Each conch will be similair but also unique. The song will be portable and will evolve. It will sound similair but different depending on surroundings. It will also invite the listeners participation (one can blow the shell to hear some noises).
An evolving, interacting concept albumn.
3.
a. Record the sound of a microwave b. press a record of this sound c. modify a microwave oven into a record player d. open door of microwave / record player and place record on turntable.
e. start microwave / record player and hear lovely sound of microwave in operation.

okay okay, so i think that we can all agree that richard isn't following any preformulated ideas on how to create his music, but I have to say that there is also some talent in the top40 bullshit. just because music is in the top40, doesn't mean that it's not talented. sorry tekn0G or whatever, but I have to say that I DO like eminem and some other rap too. I agree with you 100% that NO, they don't make their own music, and that it can be preformulated (verse, chorus, verse, chorus, etc.) BUT some of the shit they do is pretty tight. Sorry but I have to say it like this: Richard d james may be way beyond eminem musically, but lyrically eminem is way beyond richard d james. i've never heard richard really start flowin... ever. but i don't think em' could ever hold a candle to rdj... ever. But there also has to be something said about rap, which really sucks... is that it IS music, and personally i only really like rap for the lyrics. the beats can be all right, but only so-so. I mean fuck, they get a little beat goin' on, and they fuckin loop that bullshit OVER AND OVER!!!! and then they use the same thing in other songs. that is 100% pathetic, and I think is the main problem with rap.
i wouldn't mind hearin' rich and em' get together one day, and put some kinda song together. that would be interesting.

also keep in mind that I can sit down, and listen to aphex twin ALL DAY and never get tired of it, but if i listen to rap all day, i'll get pretty well sick of it, and need to put good ol' rdj back on. but i think that is just a manifestation of rap recycling their lousy beats...

i agree.. with alot of different kinds of music, wheren the "genre" is more underground.. iam sure that there are exceptions [just covering my ass here].. but when you boil it down everything today is plactic and candycoated, songs writted FOR the singer, not BY the singer.. rap artists just talkin about the "hood" and selling a million records... blah blah blah... and guess what? in 10 or so years from now people will be laughing at these groups and rappers and so on, just like they did to vanilla ice, milli vanilli (spelling?), new kids on the block.. ect ect...

"some" top 40 stuff is ok, but it's very rare, another thing I hate about eminem is that he can't find enough words to rhyme, so he says a word, then he'll explain it in his next line, which I think is just plain lazy, and also, jokes get old, and that's all that his songs are, he pretends that he is normal than acts hard to form a contradictory ironic humor in his songs (such as criminal or kim) and I find that sort of thing predictable and not funny, you may like his music, but that doesn't mean that it's good music, It's means that you like his music, so don't be offended when I say that it's bad music coz it is, you even said so yourself, so what are you arguing about? your post should have read : I know he sucks but I still like him
I'm sorry but rap sucks

okay tek, but you know you only help prove yourself wrong with contradictions. you say just because i like eminem, that doesn't it make it good music. Okay, i can agree with that. but then you have to admit that just because you don't like eminem that doesn't mean it is bad music. Music is Art, and Art is subjective, so that leads to there being no objective beauty or lack there of in music. So that means just because ALL OF US love aphex twin SO much, none of that means aphex twin is any good at all. it just means we all think he is good.
So don't you worry at all about me being offended at all. i'm just fine.

ok xepha, here's the difference, ahex twin makes music because he wants to, dispite the face he shows the public, he does care about how it sounds and comes out, otherwise it wouldn't sound that good, Whereas many pop artist only know how to do basic things with music, but because it's so catchy, they become popular anyway, so why should people who don't give a shit about their music output (eminem, it's obvious that it's a powertrip thing to him{eg.stan. "I have this real problem with my obsessed fans killing themselves over me" and it's a month after his first fucking single, what a tryhard,) Aphex twin has actually been a pioneer in music boundaries, he's formulated his own way of making music and does it to a better standard than anyone else, an example of a good rapper would be "vanilla ice", they weren't funny but they were damn good, I reckon that once the joke gets old (eminem) you'll stpo listening to him, and what the point of listening to something that you won't like a month later
ok I'm rambling now, but It's still true, I can hear music I don't like and say "this is good music, It's well done, well put together, original etc" And I have a lot of friends that do the same, but I've never heard anyone that's not into that sort of pop music say that it is good, there IS a difference between good music and bad music, 50,000,000 people like eminem and 4,000,000 people like aphex twin, but who is more musically talented?
back me up here guy's,...........
