From what I've heard/seen, the movie looks really good, funny and informative at the same time, as most of his movies are. I love how his movies make you laugh but then when you stop and think about and realize it's real your like, "hey... thats not funny..."

but see, if you can be so free to express yourself, why can't Conformist be just as free?
but anyway: is the movie really that good? this is the first i've heard of Micheal Moore..

quote me saying something to the effect that i don't want conformist to speak his mind.. the stuff i said that apparently sparked his anger was actually me trying to engage him in debate, not shushing him. yea it was a loaded question but i wanted him to think about how important politics are and how people shouldn't give up on politics because of politicians.
elastica: go to michaelmoore.com, he's very fascinating. a jester and a truthspeaker in one. and yes the movie is all that and a bag of chips. so is his movie roger & me, about the economic collapse of his hometown of flint, michigan.

right, bumped this golden oldie :P because I've just seen it..
I thought it was wonderful - very funny and painful at the same time. the part about columbine itself was very well timed - really hit me in the stomach.
I remember Zeus saying in another thread about this film that it made him angry - I can see why..
made me think differently about my life too. we had a dutch professor of American Studies do an introduction. he said that most Dutch people feel less safe than most American people, while the chance of one of us (the Dutch) getting murdered, is more than ten times as small. this fear also boils down to the media overhere, scaring us.. like Moore says..
I did think showing the picture of the little dead girl to Heston was a bit over the top - especially the shot of Moore standing there, with the picture.. : s

Michael Moore is a hypocrite, a liar and a fraud - no different than most of the things he rails against. He's gaining wealth and power by exploiting and playing off the ignorance of the masses.

I have a question realting to the B.F.C. movie to you americans that might happen to read this:
In the movie an interesting thread is pulled about wether it's "Fear" that is behind the disproportionately high figures of murders per capita in the US. Do you americans actually feel any fear right now? I'm talking mostly of these "orange alerts" and the so called "credible sources" that warns of ever more terrifying terrorattacks. One more... Did any of you feel that Iraq as a country could actually be a real threat to the US as a country?
Thanks for replies.

hm interesting. I didn't need Michael Moore's movie to let me know some of the things going on in America. And it's obvious that movie is full of propaganda... but that's what it's suppose to be. Showing you the other side of America that isn't shown on CNN.
I really like Bowling for Columbine but I don't base my opinions on it.

i dont know if this was covered in that "truth about bowling for columbine" link... but he contradicted himself a few times...
like when he said (or implied is more like it, as much of what he was "saying" was) poverty wasn't a big difference between canada and the US
first of all, it simply is there are no ghettos in canada he said somehting like "oh, but the unemployment rate is twice as high in canada, so it cant be the poverty thing!"
then a few minutes later hes in a canadian 'ghetto' showing us how nice it is (clean with a playground and all)
then he was like "but canadians are as gunloving as americans... there are 8 MILLION guns in canada!"
wow thats an awful big number mike... he never actually compares it to the number of guns per capita in teh US, but he does say earlier in the movie, during that little cartoon of american history, that the white folks bought "a quater of a million guns" when the ran out into the suburbs
so theres obviously a huge difference between the number of firearms per capita in the us and canada, and obviously a huge difference in the level of poverty... his movie was pretty misleading on those points, and you dont even have to look outside of his movie to see that

from what i understand, street violence isn't prevalent in canada like it is in the poorest areas of our cities. i believe that's the point he's making by showing canadian "ghettos." he wasn't saying there's no poverty, just that it's not violent poverty like it is here, if you follow what i'm saying.
