- 2001 vs 2002 -

I think 2001 was much better than 2002 for electronic
music. What do you think?
Here below some example:

2001
------
AFX - 2 remixes by AFX
Aphex Twin - Drukqs
Polygon Window - Surfing on sine Waves (reissue)
Autechre - Confield
Squarepusher - Go Plastic
Plaid - Double Figure
Ovuca - Wasted Sunday

2002
------

Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
Global Goon - Vatican Nitez
Astrobotnia pt.1, pt.2, pt.3
Squarepusher - Do you know Squarepusher
Autechre - Gantz Graf ep
Plaid - P-Brane ep

etc... etc...

Which is your opinion?

Squarepusher - Do you know Squarepusher... Do you know rap
sounds like ultimate shit ? 2001 for that sole reason

Drukqs, Confield and Double Figure are three titans very
hard to beat, imo.
Astrobotnia and Geogaddi are the only really good points of
2002.

2001 was so much better:

drukqs is amazing,
sosw is also a great album (nice reissue),
I love confield,
go plastic is the best squarepusher album imo,
and of course AMNESIAC!

2002:
I don't really like geogaddi,
dunno global goon,
I hated astrobotnia for some reason, haven't heard do you
know squarepusher yet, but I've heard it's not that good at
all,
gantz graf is a boring release imo,
tho P-brane ep is AMAZING!

I haven't forgot Vatican Nitez (it's signed in my first
post) and it's a good album, anyway I prefer Geogaddi and
Astrobotnia pt.1 compared to it.

well.. yeah . should wait till 2003, but so far 2001>2002

confield
go plastic
drukqs

richie hawtin - de9:closer to the edit
lesser - gearhound
matmos - a chance to cut is a chance to cure

m3rck releases: machine drum, proem,

but then i'm sure there'll be 2002 stuff i haven't got yet,
and will only listen to in 2003, so .. hard to say really ..

i reckon a good contest would be 1999 vs 2001!

in 2001 i worked in a better job where i could easily
download tunes.... mostly dj sets and radios shows. My faves
are

* Warp: DJ aura mix +
Various warp mizes
* www.brucewang.com - excellent braidance radio
* Rephlex Radio 1
* All the jorex stuff... esp AFX Sonar 2001

plus most of squarepusher on Vinyl!!
...2002's been lacking

******************************************

...now 2002 is finished... so, which year was the best for
braindance? 2001 or 2002?

I say 2001 without any doubt.

For me it boild down to:

Drukqs & Surfing on Sine waves
Vs.
Geogaddi & Astrobotnia 1 & Astrobotnia 2

I'd say 2002 just about clinches it.

ceri surfing on sine waves is 93 or something
2001 was best drill year - drukqs
2002 was the best year for intelligent chill out like
geogaddi and vatican nitez

Probably, Ceri meant the "surfing on sine waves" reissue
with 2 new bonus tracks (2001).

i don't care, i buy most older stuff anyway. :)

i only know when i buy a cd if it belongs to the 80's, 90's
or 00's... and even sometimes i'm not sure...

you may ask, why do i post this then?
that's because a ghost cat behind me told me to do it.
meow. =^.^=

props to tolstoyed for actually taking time to list NON warp
related material, god forbid.

2002 also had a few of my favorites:

mitchell akiyama - temporary music
sutekh - fell
twine - recorder
tim hecker - my love is rotten to the core

as far as just strictly warp releases, i like 2001 equally
as 2002. i love confield and i love geogaddi.

but as far as non warp is concerned im going for 2002. lots
of great stuff.
