I think at the moment, my favourite leonard cohen song is
"Avalanche". Excellent track - download it (and the album
it's on) if you have spare time and space.

I really like Waiting for the Miracle - what do you think
about The Future, on the same album as Waiting.... ? I think
they go excellently together. :)

jupitah... my favourite LP of his "songs of love and hate" -
tho it may be a bit too much for a 1st time listener - I'd
recommend Songs from a Room LP first :)

to be honest, i was answering your question w/o owning or
having heard any of his albums. there are a couple of his
songs on the natural born killers soundtrack, which is a
favorite of mine, and i first heard "i'm your man" in a
figure skating competition! i've since heard it on the radio
and downloaded it. there are a few other songs i've heard
but not many. i'll be watching this thread for peoples'
favorites...

hehe -- I would go to allmusic.com, and have a look :) His
early stuff is really great... VERY unlike Waiting For The
Miracle....

My favorite Cohen is "Hallelulja"
It is also the only Cohen song i have heard haha!
Very powerfull song , love it.
It was in the movie "Shreck" , the scene where the princess
is going to get married and both her and shreck is sad and
lonely .
This was some other guy singing it so i downloaded cohens
original version and found it to be even better.
Get that one Titsworth , i showed it to Raimons and he loved
it to.

Marlowe , wich album is Hallelulja on?

Sido - it's on the 1985 album "Various Positions" :) I'm
more a fan of his early stuff though.

I think anyone wanted to get into Cohen should just check
out the classic Best of compilation.

My favourite L. Cohen moments:
Master Song
Tonight Will Be Fine
Famous Blue Raincoat
Take This Longing
Story of Isaac

Have you hearrd the Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds coverr of
Avalanche? It's song 1 on the album From Her to Eternity.
Grreat trrack to open that album on. He rreally caputurres
the claustrrophobia of the trrack.

Dress Rehearsal Rag. Horrifying, harrowing, hilarious. The
image of a disturbed Santa Claus is one of my favorite in
all of music.

String arrangement... faultless. Children's choir? What the
fuck.

Yes, it's a fantastic song. I recently watched a documentary
/ hour-long interview with Cohen, filmed after he left the
monastery. I didn't pay much attention to it, but I'm sure
it was pretty interesting! I would have preferred a proper
biography of him! :D

While the early acoustic, nassaly-voiced Cohen songs are
really all masterpieces of Montreal folk, there's something
about "The Future" that's so different from everything else
he has done. It's an apocalyptical disc, no wonder Oliver
Stone used songs of it for "Natural Born Killers".

I mean here's an old guy, singing this :

Give me crack and anal sex
Take the only tree that's left
And stuff it up the hole
In your culture
Give back the Berlin Wall
Give me Stalin and St. Paul
I've seen the future, brother
It is murder...

The only time i ever heard anything about leonard cohen, was
in this song by another guy called jeff lewis.
it was a song about a guy who got a blow job in a hotel or
something....

Chelsea Hotel #2

I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel,
you were talking so brave and so sweet,
giving me head on the unmade bed,
while the limousines wait in the street.

?

song on that first album.
