Ants An ant brain has about 250 000 brain cells. A human brain has 10,000 million so a colony of 40,000 ants has collectively the same size brain as a human.

In the octopus and many cephalopods, the males have a special tentacle with which they insert their spermatophores under the mantle of the female. The tentacle is then retracted for future use.
The paper nautilus is cephalopod which, like its cousin, the chambered nautilus, "sails the unshadowed main."* When the male detects a receptive female, he avoids intimacy. It's sex at a distance. His spermatophore-bearing tentacle detaches itself from the body and swims -- under its own power -- to the female, being in effect a swimming penis.

Have you ever seen them communicate via their chromataphores? The first time I witnessed it I had a hard time believing it was actually happening.. Are there any other telepathic creatures outside of the cephalopod kingdom?
Some other interesting octopi facts : - A giant Pacific octopus can fit its entire body through an opening no bigger than the size of its beak.
- The pupil of an octopus' eye is rectangular. - An octopus has the largest food conversion rate for any invertebrate at 80%. For every pound of food it consumes, about half that is gained by the entity.
- When under stress, such as in captivity, some octopuses eat their own arms, which regenerate.

chromataphores are so cool...
they are directly linked to the brain so in effect they show internal mental states...
Great to see another fan on the boadrd...:)...

a female iguana has to truly SUFFER to make babies. first, the males rape them. then thay have to climb up to a volcanic crater in the middle of their island. the climb is about 1500 meters. the slopes are made of fragile sandstone. once they manage to get to the end they need to fight each other to death in order to lay eggs in the crater. otherwise there'd be no room.
reptiles rule.
kanske borde vi ha en "vem talar svenska"-thread.
