what do you think of artists trashing instruments on
stage/in videos?

I hate it....it's a waste

NIN spring to mind.

It really depends on why they are trashing their
instruments.

Hendrix did it in a ritualistic ecstasy. Most new guys do it
to sell their records to kids.

"Complicated" video

If someone really feels the need to trash their musical
instrument, so be it.

Karma will dictate what happens to them and their musical
talent/carreer eventually

it's like "now I have enough money to waste perfectly good
instruments on something that doesnt require talent"

if their equipment breaks, then it'd be understandable to
'finish it off' in a fit of anger.

that reminds me...I once saw a concert-video with pantera,
and the leadguitar broke in the 'neck'. He still played on
while the 'head' of the guitar hang dangling from the 'neck'
*hehe*

no they had more instruments. but its just a cool way to do
it in the beginning of the show.

The only time it haas been done to good effect IMHO is in
"Sale of the Century" by sleeper in the shot where Louise
Wener lowers herself into the water holding her guitar.

She said afterwards that she wished she hadn't done it as
she ruined her favourite guitar!

Hey, but what's all the fuss about breaking perfectly good
instruments? They are not sacred objects.

Call me narrowminded but I personally think it's just stupid
and not original anymore as a show...

Even Pete Townshend, the infamous guitar trasher in the 60s
and 70s admitted that most of those gutars are pre-broken.
It's just a show.

It sucks ass, it such a fucking waste. I'd hit kurt cobain

now that you mention it, I really dont think that a little
girl like Avril Lavigne can trash a guitar, in that way she
does in the video. Probly pre-broken
