they're not millionaires. maybe one day they will be off the
streets living in mansions like us...until then, they're
absolute scum whom i like to piss on after drinking much
champagne and white wines with my aristocratic comrades.

all prostitutes!

why even bother making music? i don't think any of us are
going to become famous or rich because of it. might as well
use the money to buy a gun and a bullet instead.

Reason - all you need!!

=|R3FL3X|= from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-16 21:51 [#00022471]

Reason is not all you need. Not to sound rash, but.... id
like to see someome make something with just as much
imagination on reason and then on all that or more or even
less equipment. Not going to happen. Sounds better too...
everything is better. Famous? Who said anything about that?
Its so fun and interesting, very very cool indeed, famous is
just something that may happen to anyone for any reason down
the road. Who knows? There are lots of famous music people
in the world - Whos to say it couldn't be me, or the next
guy who comes along?

o9o on 2001-08-16 21:52 [#00022473]

Music is all I have since I have no m8s, and I never go out
and have fun. And I just read my brother's yearbook and some
cuntuss said he was their idol, ffs. My life is the
shittest, I also don't have any GCSEs or A levels to get me
through life so I am going to buy the gun and take it to my
bedroom, lock the door, and...

Geonime from here on 2001-08-16 22:01 [#00022476]

R3PHL3X. You're talking bullshit. It's talent and
imagination that counts. Your music could sound technically
amazing, but deep-down it would be just as crap as if it was
done on a PC (not that I'm saying your music is crap, it was
just an example).

Although proper equipment is needed if you want to play
live.

=|R3FL3X|= from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-16 22:10 [#00022478]

No? What are you saying? Should I just take your song out
for consideration?

Look - Imagination is right, but youve got it all wrong. I
said with the same imagination, what someone can do on
equipment is FAR better than anything done with the same
imagination on Reason or something like that. With 1 or 2
programs there are LIMITS with what you can do. With
equipment there are hardly any limits with what you can
do... think about it. I mean comeon have an open mind about
this, dont stick to the easy route that gives you quick,
preset answers.

Geonime from here on 2001-08-16 22:20 [#00022483]

oh yeah! bring my song into this. that was my FIRST ATTEMPT
at a proper song, you've probably been doing this for years
now. WHy not dig out the first song you ever made and
compare the two? Go stick your stupid equipment up your big
fat arse.

hevquip from an egren's coffee shop on 2001-08-16 22:27 [#00022487]

i dont like software either. why? because it's do damn easy
and it all sounds the same. it's affordable, so people that
have no clue as to what good music is or people who like
shitty music end up making shitty music. because everyone
seems to be making music these days, because of damn
software, they post it on the internet and it makes it a
pain in the ass for me to find something good to listen to
because i have to sift through a bunch of shit first to find
it.

=|R3FL3X|= from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-16 22:32 [#00022490]

Geo: yeah? offf......... ok whatever you say bub. You know
whats funny? You ate your words, cause your song made it on
the list. But now. Its off. Thanks. Unless youd actually
like to have an open mind and stop being such a bone headed
ass.

Guess what? I never made a first song on a computer. Ive
never made an electronic song before and kept it. You know
why? Cause they were all made with a computer program and
they all sucked. Sure you can make good songs with them and
such, yes its true its true... But I can almost always tell
if someone has made a song with a software app or not. If
you are really serious about making these tunes and playing
live and recording studio quality then you will NEED real
equipment along with a good sequencer. How do I know all
this? Ive read all that I can, experimented and have been
using equipment {not to to make my own songs} for about 12
years now. NO computers, mix boards, effects and other REAL
shit. Its what has lead me to believe that its the only real
way for ME to do it.

=|R3FL3X|= from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-16 22:32 [#00022491]

hevquip: dann rights!

=|R3FL3X|= from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 2001-08-16 22:37 [#00022492]

This is a stupid argument let me be the FIRST to say so.
Think about it.

You obviously never read what I first wrote, about having
equal imagination on two different set ups {ie: software VS.
equipment}. You can make some kick ass songs with software,
but you can only GO SO FAR with that, with equipment you can
go much farther.

Geonime: I never brought your song up to shov it in your
face, it was rather good for sequencing stuff. See? Jesus
Christ people take things out of my mouth {not even..... its
typed words}. Stop it please. Now I dont know if I should
keep your song or not since I blatherd it out to you that
you are on the list.... doesnt matter, there is a new list
anyway. Youll see.

Equipment is the way to go if you have money, if you dont
have enough then fuck around with software until you do.

Geonime from here on 2001-08-16 22:40 [#00022494]

Was it really on? I can't beleive it. Err, I feel stupid
now, I was cussing you even though you were including my
song on your compilation. Unless you're just saying it to
make me feel guilty. I'm real sorry, I'm just bitter and
jealous because I've always wanted decent equipment. You're
right, software brings limited results... please forgive me.
(I'm not just saying this because of my song but because I
feel guilty that I snapped at you for no reason).

Geonime from here on 2001-08-16 22:47 [#00022495]

Well, I don't care if my song is on the new list or not.
I'll be dead soon, anyway. I don't think it's time for me to
start getting into making music, it'll all be for nothing.

Dona Naty from easter island on 2001-08-17 00:10 [#00022501]

fuck it. reflex is a fucking faggot anyway...

pauwl from here at the moment on 2001-08-17 01:08 [#00022510]

sheesh, calm down kids!

luuje on 2001-08-17 02:11 [#00022516]

hey you dont have to apologize to reflex, geonime. stick to
your guns man.. reflex is pretty daft anyways. you honestly
shouldn't feel bad for not having your track on whatever
shit he is putting together.

hmm, retaliate?

rob fragilenine from a warm place on 2001-08-17 02:35 [#00022519]

Here's a solution: Use BOTH equipment and a PC to
make music! That's what I do... I record my synth lines
(yes, record LIVE) into the PC and loop them/twist them up
with Wavelab, Goldwave etc. I also do this with guitar.
Also, I don't have enough money to buy a fancy-ass MC307 or
64000 track digital recording equipment...

I'm also starting a project where I use ENTIRELY equipment,
but not new stuff, I'll use a cheap analog 4-track recorder,
my guitar + effects, a keyboard (casio ct-370 + casio
ct-470), and a microphone. I plan to make the most hardcore
industrial/metal stuff I've ever heard... like NIN +
Mudvayne x 10.

Bah.

Barrett, Syd from Toronto on 2001-08-17 07:01 [#00022560]

bah indeed.

rob fragilenine from tafe on 2001-08-17 08:51 [#00022570]

My equipment list:
Casio CT-370
DOD Death Metal Distortion
Zoom 505 multi-fx
Homemade theremin
180w guitar amp
15w industrial guitar amp (made completely of metal)
2x electric guitars
Acoustic guitar
Alesis HR-16 drum machine
Homemade equipment rack including:
:: 12-band stereo equalizer
:: 8-channel mixer (Roland i think)
:: 180w power amp (homemade)
:: Tape deck (for absolutely no reason)

So there.

pauwl from here at the moment on 2001-08-17 18:08 [#00022741]

i do the same there rob, sample stuff from me keyboard then
twist it and tweek it in sound forge, i find it most
enjoyable! :)

tonyp from london on 2001-08-20 10:16 [#00023265]

I think you will find that lots of quality artists use
software ONLY to xreate cool tracks

od from perth on 2001-08-20 15:00 [#00023402]

cmon reflex - you can go at least as far on software and for
cheaper
in my opinion, hardware MOSTLY is for elitists.
i mean you can probably get programs that do exactly the
same thing as hardware for free off the net. if not, someone
CAN program them. there is not difference.

od: possibly, but there are not programs out there right
now.. and I doubt there will ever be programs to cover every
single thing. If I haven't made myself clear in saying this
I say it now.. use both. I will be when I get all my shit.
Iam using sequencing program for the studio shit. Without it
id be lost.
