Because its annoying when your talking to somebody, and it
cuts off between coversations, and end up missing
something.Also when you d/l,you get disconnected,and then
your d/l has been remotely queued. Its something that
shouldnt happen.
Did I annoy you by complaining?
I was also complaining with a sense of humour[you might not
of got it, i swear to exaggerate as well].

Maybe I know a little bit more about Nir's work w. Soulseek
than you do. I know he's struggling with it a lot. You
should actually support Nir and tell him it's a HELL of a
good software he's created, even when it's running smoothly
- don't forget that.

please define "freedom of speech".

if "freedom of speech" were allowed here, then we wouldn't
need Moderators, but we do, don't we?

If Nir is struggling, that's his problem. He doesn't deserve
anybodies symapthy or money. People don't run websites like
that altruistically, they run them for the kudos and repect
they gain. Same with Phobiazero and Joyrex. They run their
sites not out of a sense of giving, but for the attention,
love and respect they receive. Its up to the webmasters to
fund the work they love not the people who visit their
sites. There are many far more deserving people in this
world to whom your $5 a month means the difference between
life and death.

i don't like how soulseek cleared my huge wishlist, huge
download queue list, and huge buddylist a few days ago
overnight. the next time i started soulseek it was like i
was a first time user. i never got my old info back.

Fair enough,i wont argue with you,and i do like soulseek a
lot,i prefer it then a lot of the other filesharing
sortwares. But when its disconnecting you all the time, like
it was for me,there doesnt seem anypoint in using it.And if
you dont complain nothing will get done. Its fine now though
:)
And i know why there is moderators, and agree that they are
needed.
Please dont talk to me like im stupid, you dont even know
me,and dont say "then dont say stupid things...."I was
actually asking at the time what was the matter with slsk.
Do you know why it disconnects as frequently as it did?

offline nir on 2002-08-27 20:33 [#00367834]

we finally got enough money to rent a very decent server in
the US, which we already moved the website to. arzenik, the
administrator of the current server, is working hard to get
everything in order so we can move the actual soulseek
server there as well. I'm hoping this will improve people's
connectivity since we'll be running on a faster machine
that's closer to most users.

i'm about exhausted of slsk malfunction threads =(

offline nir on 2002-08-27 21:03 [#00367895]
Points: 77 Status: Lurker

yeah, me too. it's probably got something to do with
people's "post it before you complete the thought" attitude
on the board. all these threads should really go to the
soulseek messageboard, and even then only if the issues they
relate to aren't covered by the FAQ.

Given the current file sharing climate, I would probably be
moving my server out of the US.

Hannibal::no prob! i hear the theme song when i see your
avatar =)

I hardly ever have problems with soulseek.
Ok sometimes it slows down my internet but thats all.Maybe
its more unstable on some systems?
I don't think anyone should complain one fucking bit!!
Take everything you have downloaded from soulseek and then
count how much $$$$ that is. And that is just ONE way of
looking at it.
I have great respect admiration for people like Nir Phobia
TuneMX and Joyrex for creating something important for
everybody with no financial gain in mind.

Paxman:: So what do you do that is so great? Charity?
finding a cure for aids?building wells in africa? freeing
tibet?
You say there are people that are more worth our 5$ then Nir
and Phobia etc and that is of course true.
But i also say there are far more people worth criticising
and bitching about then them!!! You for example! How can you
have such strong opinions on the subject when you don't even
use soulseek and have 12 points on this mb ?

Actually Nir's out to make money from Soulseek. At least
he's honest about it.

"Financially, my goal was always to have Soulseek make
enough money that I didn't have to work for anyone else."

See this interview.
