there are a few regionless dvd's such as 'gantz graf' and
bjork's live dvd's. these can be watched on any system.
usually dvd's are made regionless when they are released
simultaneously around the world.

Aliens underrated? I would say Alien is underrated - much
better than Aliens imo. Aliens is always being called the
best in the series..!

and Terminator 1 & 2? nah..

jonny mnemonic deserves all the shit the critics can throw
at it. and aliens, T1 and T2 underrated? I think not.

agreed, 'aliens' blows but 'alien' is magnificent! each
movie was directed by a different director and it really
shows. james cameron is way too hollywood for me.

"alien" is incredible. the beauty of the imagery, incredible
acting, music used in a good way (not used at all in tense
scenes), wonderful music score (the sounds when the titles
appear..)..

unless i recall incorrectly, wasn't the music for alien
minimalist electronic stuff?

oh man.. i know theres tons of movies im forgetting...

but heres a few i just remembered...

slacker (the original...not that new one)
fantastic planet (incredibly bizarre animated movie from the
70's...)
the cruise
baraka
whats up tiger lily?

anyone seen any of those?
..im sure ill keep remembering more

i dont remember it being too electronic... it may have been
though.. i havent seen it in a long time... but i remember
it being very beautiful and atmospheric...in fact.. this
thread just reminded me of it and im looking for it now on
soulseek...

alien is a great movie...not sure its undervalued though...
aliens definitely isnt... i actually like them both... alien
was a great suspense movie.. and a classic sci fi film i
believe to be right up there with 2001... and aliens is a
well done blockbuster type action movie.. you really cant
compare the two... they're pretty different... they're
practically in two different genres

i meant sort of ambient electronic with analog pulses here
and there. but i haven't seen it in a while either.

i thought the transition from an understated sci-fi film
like 'alien' to an action blockbuster like 'aliens' was
horrific.

Even though its a depressing film, I've always liked
Deutschland bleiche Mutter (Germany Pale Mother)

Leon and Ghost Dog are classics, as is Predator: Arnie's
finest hour? I think so, violent and hilarious in equal
content. As for A.I, I thought that was one of the most
overated films I've ever seen. Its just Pinnochio with a
huge budget?! Very disappointing.

done to his idea

Well, if he doesn't see this, its one of THE best British
films ever made and is based on the book 'A Kestrel for a
Knave' by Barry Hines (also a classic).

And it was directed by the socialist director Ken Loach who
also made Carla's Song, Bread and Roses, Land & Freedom, My
Name is Joe and loads more I can't remember. He's like mike
Leigh only more political (sometimes to the detriment of his
art).

no, its full orchestral music, but with some strange
scraping and rattling sounds.
the OST isn't available anymore, sometimes through eBay..
a few days ago I ordered a cd with the best bits from the
first 3 alien OSTs redone with an orchestra - half of the
music is from 'alien'..

damn...i rememer seeing it on vinyl at a store when i was
little...

its ok.. i found it all on soulseek last night.. and yeah,
it is mostly orchestral.. with a few weird sounds and
eraserhead- soundtrack-style rumbling on a few of the tracks

I'd have to agree with Ghost Dog and I shall also say that
Slackers is for the most part undervalued because not many
people have seen it. I'm sure that it will become a cult
classic eventually, anyway.

Once Were Warriors

Such an amazing film, quite disturbing but very moving at
the same time.
