map[warp/rephlex-aholic] from CH - Mulligan on 2001-08-13 15:47 [#00021499]

so the Roland Juno 106 is not bad....but hard to find for a
good price....
The Juno-106 is a very common and widely used analog synth.
It continues to be one of the most popular analog synths due
to it's great sound and easy programming. It uses the same
synth engine as the Juno 60 but adds extensive MIDI control.
There is also increased patch memory storage with 128
patches instead of 56.

The 106 a six voice polyphonic and programmable analog
synth with digitally controlled oscillators. What this means
is that you get close to the same great punchy sound of the
Juno 60 with more reliable tuning stability and added MIDI
abilities.

There is an excellent 24dB/oct analog filter with plenty of
resonant and self-oscillating possibilities. A flexible
envelope section and classic chorus effect are also
on-board. This synth is very straight-forward and very
powerful. Use it to generate lush pads, filter sweeps, and
funky bass lines.

William Ørbit, Uberzone, Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim),
Autechre, BT, Vince Clarke, Moby, 808 State, Underworld,
Leftfield, Fluke, Josh Wink, Todd Terry, Depeche Mode, Eat
Static, Biosphere, The Prodigy, The Shamen, Bushflange,
Cirrus, Astral Projection, Apollo 440, Faithless, Union
Jack, Computer Controlled, Pet Shop Boys, Freddy Fresh,
Rabbit in the Moon, Laurent Garnier, and the Chemical
Brothers uses The Juno106 :)

Polyphony 6 voices
Oscillators DCO: pulse, saw, and square
LFO rate and delay
VCF non-resonant high pass and resonant low pass
VCA ADSR, level and gate
Keyboard 61 keys
Arpeg/Seq None
Control MIDI
Date 1985
Current$$ $450

map[warp/rephlex-aholic] from CH - Mulligan on 2001-08-13 15:49 [#00021501]

but only 4 voices......

hevquip from an egren's coffee shop on 2001-08-13 16:18 [#00021508]

i'm planning on buying two korgs. the poly 800mkII and
dw-8000. then hopefully an akai ax-60. roland put out some
good stuff, but a lot of it is overrated.

map[warp/rephlex-aholic] from CH - Mulligan on 2001-08-13 16:32 [#00021514]

yeah , the ax60 (or the ax80?) got good visuals over there,
i like them displays, but it's hard to find here in
switzerland for a good price

hevquip from an egren's coffee shop on 2001-08-13 20:11 [#00021546]

the ax-60 can be quite expensive. i would prefer an ax-60
over an ax-80 because there's more sliders and knobs. the
ax-80 has 8 polyphony and the ax-60 has 6 though.

mr silly on 2001-08-13 21:44 [#00021557]

nord lead. lovely.

hevquip from an egren's coffee shop on 2001-08-13 22:45 [#00021571]

oooh yes, nords are quite lovely. shame they cost so much.

Wizard MaC from Amersfoort on 2001-08-14 12:57 [#00021679]

What do you guys think of the Yamaha AN1x?
I think this synth sounds very warm/analog for a digital
thing!

map[warp/rephlex-aholic] from CH - Mulligan on 2001-08-14 16:55 [#00021733]

i can't say something about the an1x, but i heard, that many
musicans love it!
so i prefer the old synthesizers from akai, korg and
roland..... the jupiter-8 is a monster !

Quoth from Lincoln on 2001-08-14 17:00 [#00021737]

definitely the Roland JP-8000, Juno 60, anything in the
Jupiter Series, particularly the Jupiter 4. But my favorite,
which I own is the Roland JP-8000

Quoth from Lincoln on 2001-08-14 17:01 [#00021740]

and along with anything Roland, I also love the Oberheim
OB-12. A little pricy, but well worth the buy if you can
afford it.

REPHLEX~ology on 2001-08-14 20:13 [#00021801]

get wit' the times people. Go soft synth, and get a mega
cheap midi board for under £200 (about $160).
I got vaz plus and some random keyboard i found somewhere
and its the bomb, and comes with hundreds of patches. It
might not be as concrete as a good chaming hardsynth, but
does the same + some more.

pauwl from here at the moment on 2001-08-14 20:21 [#00021802]

i have a Roland Juno 60, it makes nice noises, i like it.

5is6 from +-=0 on 2001-08-14 21:07 [#00021817]

Can anyone supply wav for any of these brilliant devices?

map(her) from CH - Mulligan on 2001-08-15 09:42 [#00022008]

hey hevquip, heard about the unisono mode at the ax80 &
vx90? so if you've got the ax80 press a note 8x and see what
happens (i rode it on synrise.de)

The Roland Jupiter 6, the only synth I've laid my hands on,
plays well even though part of the envelope generator only
works when it wants to. I doubt the art college will fix it
soon, most people regard it as old (they should know
better).

My joy is an old Roland SH-5. I also have a Juno-106 and an
MC-202. If I get anything vintage again, it'll be a korg
MS-10 or 20.
