I just read the book and watched the movie. Honestly I
didn't get the movie...it had some good moments but it was
wierder than the book, but less enjoyable, and left out a
lot of things that were totally essential to the plot of the
book.

dunno how I feel about it...Do Androids Dream of Electric
sheep wasn't about cyberpunk at all really

Definitely one of my fave Sci-fi films, when I was little, I
found it too dark & scary, but now I really appreciate the
atmosphere of the flick. A true classic.

um..actually PKD was not cyberpunk..he predates it and is an
obvious inpiration..the city and look was Ridley Scott and
Syd Mead..obviously inspired by early William Gibson's
descriptions of the Sprawl..

Directors cut and the Orignial

The Director's cut is with the Harisson Ford narrating and
has a few more scenes that hint at Harrison Ford being a
Cyborg as well (He dreams of Unicorns)..plus it does not
have the happy ending saying that Rachel(i think) will live
forever as they ride through green pastures...

missing...

in the movie, androids have pre programmed dreams and
memories.
one of deckards dreams is of a unicorn, and at the end of
the movie, a policeman places a piece of origami in the
shape of a unicorn on a table. i think this is the thing
that ridley scott inserted to hint at deckards true persona.

Philip K Dick is NOT cyberpunk..his mileau is too vast..only
a few of his ideas inspired this specific genre we call
cyberpunk...

thats what i said.
william gibson was cyberpunk. anyway, dicks book takes place
in a farmland, and scott purposely made the movie in a more
"effective" environment.

dick's book tok place in the same place as the movie.
not on a farm.
william gibson had never heard of phillip k dyck until
cpmparrison's were drawn between the two authors after the
84 release of neuromancer.
syd mead was mildly influenced by william gibson's short
stories in omni as well as other scifi mags.
syd mead is a futurist.
philip k dyck is a futurist.
william gibson created cyberpunk and still is th best author
of the genre.
the directors cut featured a redone soundtrack by vangelis,
removed deckard's voice over and had extra footage,
including a different ending.
in this version itis implied that deckard is more human than
human.
the origianl did not.
the book also implied this, yet followed a different path
that ridley scott chose to avoid.
if you havve read the book you will understand how the
transaltion from book to screen would be near impossible.
pkd kiscks arse.
wg kicks arse
rs kicks arse.
bladerunner is my fav movie ever!
ta da!

Hey Kids!

I know you're all up about Ridley Scott and Mr. Dick and
that Greek guy with the Fairlight CMI, but...

Get ready to knock BR down a notch when Chris Cunningham and
RDJ finally get around to finishing Neuromancer!!!
I gave up following their progress (they had a show together
in the UK, a mixed media installation, which would suggest
the level of distraction and casual tangent they operate
under) but I'm sure it will happen eventually...

Any rumours out there?

ever getting bored of it, and i can still watch it now, and
that is a huge thing to me cos i get bored of stuff so

leave it open and there are loads of facts and bits and

WG isn't a lying cunt.
he is well read.
and imaginative.
PKD was influenced by the same authors as gibson, an dif
yoaur einto literature and have read the two, you will see
that both writing styles are so disimilar, that if the
sci-fi element weren't there, the nyou would never compare
one to the other.
WG is a much better writer by far.
read Moore.
read zammyatin.
read plato.
read huxley.
read orwell.
those are WG s influences>you will see paralells in more
than just thier sci-fi content/mentality.
PKD is good, and so was tolkien and adams, but they miss the
mark when up against gibson.

yeah, I liked this movie... I bought the soundtrack the
other day, and it's fantastic... really captures the feel of
a futuristic environment well I think... I love the vocal
snippets mixed in to... I don't find they get in the way
either... I feel that they act like another instrument in a
way... especially the final track, that vocal part along
with the music is so touching... great stuff!!

Bladerunner is my fav movie. I agree, the ending was very
emotional. with perfect music to fit the scene. thanks to
vangelis. after buying the soundtrack, i heard lots of songs
that never made it into the film. these songs are
spectacular, the album itself is a mesh of detective music
and sci fi space music. If you enjoyed Vangelis' works in
that, check out hos.com
Hearts of space always has some of his stuff.

Time to die...

can you believe that the original version of bladerunner
never got released on dvd, what a let down..

well zaphod, i have to disagree..
at first i thought the unicorn dream and the oragami unicorn
meant that dekard was a replicant. but then i saw it another
way. rachel was the last one left, she was the last unicorn.
"its a shame she wont live long, but then again, who does.."
all the facts are there. or maybe ridley made it this way so
you could gather either one of these theries.
